Title: 5d mk ii vs eos m
Post by: zzzxtreme on May 22, 2019, 06:17:19 AM
hi guys. im in a dilemma.
im interested to get either one for non-4k (near full hd) raw video + audio 10-12bit for at least 5minutes.
i know budget is a consideration, but I found one 5d ii which is just $200 more than the eos m.
i understand that for recording raw + audio, Ill need to crop anyway, thereby not fully utilising the 5d sensor.

1)so big question is, what's the advantage of 5d ii over eos m for the above use case? (or vice versa)

2)what is the typical file size for a raw 5 minute video+audio?

If the 5D2 cost $200 more than an EOSM then it means you can get at least two EOSM's for the price of a 5D2. That sounds about right.

1) 5D2 is a full frame camera while the EOSM is APS-C. Won't argue over which camera has the advantage on that one.
5D2 uses a faster CF card interface but the EOSM can use the sd_uhs module (on the cutting edge builds) that speeds up the write speed considerably.
The crop_rec branches on the main repository support all of the Digic 5 cameras including the EOSM while the crop_rec work on the 5D2 and one other Digic 4 camera is mostly on one developer's unpublished repository (https://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19336.0).

2) Not sure but this calculator might help: https://rawcalculator.netlify.com/calculator_desktop

1) Both camera's mustn't be cropped to record full sensor @3x3 + audio. 5D2 has a slightly higher resolution in this mode and produces a little less aliasing.

2) Best use the link from dfort. @12bit "near to FHD" 5min on 5D2 are about 21GB+some MB for audio. On EOS-M it can be less when using lossless compression.
