Hi,

since today, my 5dmk2 seems dead...
The camera does not boot!

- these are the things which happens - under different conditions:

- when I - turn the battery in, with the bootable magic lantern card:
the red light beside the wheel shine during OFF position of the camera.
- in ON position - nothing changed. Nothing worked, camera is dead.

- when I turn the battery in, without a card -
display says (in OFF position):

"firmware update program
update file cannot be found.
Please check the memory card and reload the battery and try again."

- in ON position: nothing changed. Nothing worked, camera is also dead.

- when I turn the battery in, with the original canon firmware on the card (after erasing the card with mac utility)
the display says in OFF position:
"firmware update program
loading..."

...and then going off.
- in ON position: nothing changed.

I will be very thankful for any help!

greetings

There's a whole section for this stuff here: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?board=45.0 (Look at all the stickies.)

Why are you doing this with the Canon firmware instead of ML? Were you trying to a firmware update?

I would try formatting the card in a PC and put a completely fresh copy of ML on it.

Thanks a lot for the link. But still no solution...
I will try it next days, with a non-original battery.
I have stressed the camera and the battery with many uploadings and putting the card in and out, without waiting... my fault.

Surely

sorry to hear you had that problem. sadly I had something similar, the guys here were great trying to help me but I ended up taking the camera to  Canon Repairs service and they had  to change the main board which cost me £300:((

I can not say 100%  if the issue was related to ML or something else.(third party battery, corrupt CF card or and hardware issues might have caused ot)  I'd never know. All I know  is that  ML is  a great tool, I do  appreciate it so much ,but now I am a bit too hesitant to install it back may be until I change my body or at least when I have a back up camera.I know a lot of people enjoying the great tool, which I envy and  I look forward to having it back, hopefully with a new body.
and good luck solving the issue.

Hope you've managed to resolve the issue by now. If not, can you please provide more details such as whether or not you were already running ML on the camera or whether you were still installing it? Also, did you try booting from a bootable card with all the necessary ML files? The only way I've managed to encounter this issue thus far is by having a bootable card without the ML files.

It seems the camera stuck in a firmware update procedure. It needs a valid .fir file to finish the update.
Follow the instruction below:
Remove the card from the camera.
Remove the battery from the camera.
Turn your camera off.
Format a card on your computer.
Put an original Canon fw file to it. (Get http://pel.hu/down/eos5d2-v212-win.zip unzip it, copy the .fir file to the card's root)
Insert the prepared card to the camera.
Insert a fully charged battery to your camera.
Turn it on.
Wait until the camera finds the .fir file.
OK to enable the firmware update.
Wait until the firmware update finishes.
