For the people having problems to get Eosutility started and getting the camera "camera not recognised" error:
See if it works with a really old version of the eos digital solutions disc. After much trial and error i got the cd that came with the cam and installed this eos utility. The drivers supplied with these old disc seem wo work best with the eos utility we are supposed to use.

What not worked for me:
The downloaded and therefor up to date eos sultion disc on:
Win 7 x64
Windows XP Virtual Machine
Win7 x32

And it works well.
But the red light on my 7d is always blinking even if I do not call ML by pressing the dustbin button.
Is it normal ?

open up ML with the delete button, under the tab with  the wrench symbol, turn of all warnings for bad settings.  ;)

ThLDQ

Done. OK.
When I press the delete button, the "normal" Canon menu appears during 1/3 of a second, and then the ML menu appears.
Is it normal ?

I don't see on the shot menu the silence shot option...

dual iso and file man modules run OK without err

Maybe can you add to your istallation guide the following procedure for Mac users ?

Mac users :
- ask for the "firmware.fir" on the forum (maybe a special thread should be created ???)
- copy firmware.fir on your desktop or any other directory on your Mac
- search on the web, download and install Eos Utility 2.8.1 (here for example http://dl.dropbox.com/u/31127109/dontdelete/EOSUtility%202-8-1%20OS%20X%20Lion%20Compatible.zip). If you've got a newer version of Eos Utility you will have to remove it before.
- follow the instruction guide from #7
- after enabling the bootflag, make your CF card bootable using "Macboot" (select "Make DSLR bootable")
- copy the ML files on your CF card.
- it's done

download the following two files:

http://pel.hu/ML/autoexec.bin
http://pel.hu/ML/7D_203.sym  (right klick and save link)

find those two files in the ML folder on your CF card and replace them.

you will find the burst in the "shoot" tab.

good luck

Me neither... exact same results!
EOScard1.3.6 crashes (with some date convert error).
Then I tried with EOScard1.3.5, this let my 7D autoboot ML okay, but there is no Shoot > Silent Shooting option.
I copied the files from magiclantern-7D.203.Alpha2.zip manually to the root of the card. No silent shooting option.

There are three modules on the card in ML/MODULES, but only two are listed in ML after booting (file_man.mo and dual_iso.mo, not 7D_203.sym).

Did that, and now the option is there! Hurray! :-)

Thanks mate.

ThLDQ

Same for me.
7D_203.sym (the last ont downloaded five minutes ago from the link given by Jemabaris) is in the modules directory.
And when I tried to load the modules.... The 7d freezes

I'm so stupid  :-[
I had not understood that the two files (.bin AND .sym) had to be installed on the CF card !

Now the modules can be loaded and the silent picture menu appears in the shoot menu.

Due to licencing / legal issues we can distribute the methods to create firmware.fir but we can not distribute the actual firmware.fir file itself.
Now if you happen to find someone who would email you the firmware.fir file through PM, theres nothing I can say about that.

EOSutility download link died, I updated it.

Am updating links to EOScard now, the newer version doesnt seem to work, the older version actually made my SD-CF adapter work (im very happy now)

Pelican updated EOSutility, it should be working now. 1.35 does not pull the latest version of ML to put on the card, 1.36 should. Try the newer version first, if it fails then use the old one.

Am I the only one getting "Out of Memory" errors in EOS Utility?  Is there a fix for that?  Prior to installing 2.8.1 everything worked fine...  Is there a fix for this?  ???

Pileot

I never had to "install" 2.8, I just ran it.

Try uninstalling EOS utility completely, then install the version that came with your camera (on your CD), then just run the 2.8 version (dont worry about installing it)

If you still get errors which step do you get the out of memory error?

Pelican

EOS 7D Mark II, EOS 7D, EOS 5, EOS 100 + lenses (10mm to 300mm), 600EX, 550EX, YN600EX x 3
EOScard, EOS DSLR firmwares, ARMu, NiControl, etc.: http://pel.hu/down

I seem to be running into an issue when trying to get my 7D bootflagged with the patched firmware.

I managed to make it up to step 15 step 8 when I got an "Update file error." on my 7D.
I even tried the patch that lets you update directly from the card (bypassing the EOS Utility) and I still get the same issue.

I've "reset/reformatted" these cards several times already (I've only ever run the 7D alpha 2 off of them anyway)
Any idea what I might be doing wrong here?

With the new patch you can skip the whole EU part (step 9-12)

How is the patch installed?  Sorry if this has been explained, but I was unable to find the instructions.  Thanks so much.

I tried using the version from the CD that came with my 7d, on a computer that has never has EOS utility before otherwise, and when I select "Camera Settings/Remote Shooting" it still stops and gives me the "Out of Memory" Error...

I bet you are on MAC?

Apparently, due to the wizardry of Pelican, the process is much more simplified now.

If you downloaded any files before I would suggest you bin them and re-download everything to make sure you have the latest version of the files.

Please try the new steps and let me know how they go. Hopefully no longer needing to run EOSutility will help minamize problems!
