Learn to read before you install hacked FW on to your expensive camera
Did you read my and info128's posts? Neither of us have yet installed ML on our expensive cameras. If you had read my posts you'd also know that I don't care about the delay you're trying to convince me is "nothing."
If you could miss these things in the very posts you're responding to, then you should be able to understand a bit how many people might miss an obscure issue about the 5D3 bootflag hidden in a few threads in an unfamiliar forum. They have an excuse for missing it because there's no warning about it at the start
of any instructions for installing raw on the 5d3 (nor is there any clear warning after). And given that ML typically does a great job at making clear risks and dangers associated with installing ML, it's reasonable for people to assume that all known risks will have been made clear before
an instruction set begins describing steps for installing raw on their cameras. Moreover, in countless places (including in this forum, I'm pretty sure) people are given the general impression that ML "makes no permanent changes to their camera," but mention is never made (or at best it's rarely made) of the 5d3 exception. That's seems like a good reason for ML to make an extra effort to correct that mistaken impression for 5D3 owners.
I recognize that many people, like you, don't care about the bootflag issue. That's perfectly fine. I don't think one ought
to care. It comes down to what's important to people. If you read the threads on this issue in this forum, you know that many people do care. It seems a bit narrow-minded of you to insist that it's somehow wrong or illegitimate for a photographer, say, to care about having the wake-up from auto-power-off mode function as it should, or for someone to care about being truthful to future buyers about what's being sold to them, etc. For people like you who don't care, providing the information before
installation won't make a difference. But it will certainly make an enormous difference to people who do care.
I found out about the bootflag issue before installation by sheer luck -- even though I had read quite a bit in the forum, and had already used ML and raw on my 60D for months. Unfortunately, I didn't find out about it before buying my 5D3. Time to emphasize that I'm not blaming anyone, just trying to save other people from unnecessary disappointment.
