July 27, 2013 update: RAWMagic 1.0 is now available in the Mac App Store. Click here for more info: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/rawmagic/id658860973?mt=12

June 26, 2013 update: RAWMagic 1.0 beta 7b now supports spanned files! Download here:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/i58sm2p7jy0sohl/RAWMagic-beta7b.dmg

I finally got around to writing an easy-to-use CinemaDNG converter for Canon 5D Mk III RAW video files. The CinemaDNG writer code was written from scratch to generate proper CinemaDNG files, so they should work with DaVinci Resolve without the need to convert to TIFF, etc. Here's a screenshot of the DNG sequence in Resolve: http://imageshack.us/a/img827/1308/rawmagic04.jpg

Operation is as simple as dragging your RAW files onto the app's main window and then clicking "Convert" (just like with 5DtoRGB, but with no options since these are RAW files). So, you'll drop your files into the batch window, start the conversion and get one directory per clip full of Resolve-ready CinemaDNG files.

I've attached a few screenshots that show how it works.

It is fully functional as of now, but I just want to double and triple-check before making it available for testing. If anyone has any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them!

Thanks Thomas. Mac app development has been lagging behind, until now scrax has been flying solo.

GUI is good, but for those that script a workflow, it would be great to have a way to send an input and output directory to a command.
Code: [Select]
rawmagic-commandline input-dng-directory output-dng-directory

very useful application, thank you.

Have you looked into the chromatic aberration issue being discussed in The CinemaDNG Discussion thread? I think I can see some pink fringes in trees in your image.

I'm releasing this as a beta for now, as it will probably need some tweaking. In the mean time, however, it would be good to have a bunch of people test it.

Hi Thomas, first I would like to say thanks! Does your converter work with 5D2 ml-raw files? I converted my raws but it seems there’s something wrong with the color (high contrast and a lot of darkness).

Great! Seems to work beautifully. No pink dots, but the vertical lines are there.

The 5D Mk III camera parameters are baked into the DNG writer right now, but I can fix that. I suppose I could have an option to override those parameters with user-defined ones...

Hello,
thanks so much for the tool. Allthough it is not usable with the 5dmk2 for the moment. The green cast is beyond repair.
There is also one bug that I've found. RawMagic telle me my footage would be 23,97 fps, this is not true I shot it in 25fps. After converting to cinema-dng, resolve tells me also that the converted file is 25fps.

Thanks

I like the interface a lot, but the vertical banding is present in footage converted with this App.  *It was fixed in raw2dng .11 yesterday

I've fixed the 23.976 bug. If you can send me a short clip from your 5D Mark II, I'll make sure I get things working correctly with it.

Thanks. I'll have a look at the updated source. Can someone tell me what exactly the problem was?

Thanks SO much for your work.

Nice interface. Brilliantly fast.  Resolve accesses the metadata easily.

Perhaps a default output directory option?

Please can we have User Defined parameters, so we can use this for other cameras?

Great little GUI!

This is fantastic news. Will make it all so much easier. Can I second the plea for 5D2 compatibility.

Have you had to step them up to a 16 bit Bayer format to make them compatible with resolve?

If this can work for lv_rec raw files, could it work for cr2 sequences? I shoot mainly timelapse in full res RAW and being able to open these as raw in resolve would change my life.

Thanks Thomas.

Can somebody upload a raw file from the 5dmk2 for Thomas? I would do it myself but I will not be home until late.

Nice app, but the vertical banding is still there. Any idea if the banding problem will be fixed?

Extreme example of what vertical banding looks like -

Any chance of compressed DNG 2:1? Is it hard to implement?
