I've just installed ML on my 50D and discovered that, in live view, the back focus button no fires the shutter instead of focusing. How can that be changed to focus with he back focus button and fire with the shutter button?

Can you answer the following questions?

  • Are you running the version 2.3 stable build or a nightly build?
  • What is your custom-function setting for C.Fn IV-1 ("Shutter button/AF-ON button")?
  • Do you have "silent picture" enabled?  If so, it's unavoidable for the "AF-ON" button to fire the shutter.

Thanks for your help.

  • It's 2.3
  • silent picture is disabled
  • Metering start/meter+AF start

Hmm, I don't know what's going on then.  I haven't used the stable build in a while, but I'm pretty sure this isn't normal behavior.  Definitely check to see whether using a non-ML card fixes the issue, and you may wish to try clearing all of your camera settings.

But, maybe some other 50D user will have a different suggestion.

Found it. It was under the Canon menu live view functions. Quick mode had bee selected instead of live mode. Probably as a result of the system reset befro the ML installation.
