Zebra not showing in program modes...

I have googled and searched like crazy for this question with no result, but I have a feeling that the question is answered many times before:

The zebra workes fine in Auto and Creative Auto mode on my 5D mark II camera, but not in all other modes. Well almost true; if I remember right, it also showes up when recording. Two problems with this:

1) In Auto mode there is nothing to adjust, so I really don´t need zebra that much.
2) When recording in program mode, I can´t adjust any parameters either.

What am I missing here? My purpose was to use ML for getting my green screen light up evenly, for that I need it to work in the mode I am supposed to use (together with custom picture styles and so on (you can´t use custom picture styles in Auto mode)).

From a earlier ML movie, you can se the zebra is changing while the exposure wheel is moving. Why can´t I do that?
