Hello!! i've been  surfing this forums from like 4 years ago and now I'm feeling the need to comunicate... its hard form me because english is not my first languaje. so please be patient!

I've been recording RAW for a while on mi t2i and i have a few Questions that i couldn't answer searching on the forums.

Regarding RAW recording:
-Whats all about those 8-bit 10-bit 14-bit raw recording? how i can tell wich im using? I have the lastest nightly build. and didn't find any difference on the 2 Raw recording modules.
-does different ISO setting changes anything? I try to expose as right as possible, but setting the camera at 100ISO. lets say I do a reshot at 320ISO whitout changing shutter speed and aperture, u should have a similar dynamic range of the scene... right?
-does RAW video PNG (converted from the MLV file) has similar data to .CR2 Raw file for photos?

Regarding bitrate:
-is there any way to check record bandwich in progress? as MLV_rec on raw recording.
-ML suggest CBR 1.4x for fast SD cards, so I assumed thats the 20mb/s roof that my camera has for continious recording. is this true? is there a REAL impact on image quality (or post-color correction, for example) to boost the bitrate?

I have a Kingston hi-speed 90mb/s write speed SD card so this shouldnt be a issue.

I am considering on upgrading to a 70D. does this camera has RAW recording ML?? on the 70D specific thread says so... but i can't happen to find anything regarding Bus bandwich or RAW recording testimony

All helps are apreciated!!

Hello,

as a fellow 550D-Owner i try to answer, but not in depth, coz that is outta my knowledge.

- RAW and MLV are 14bit, other bit-sizes are only aviable to some cameras i.e. 5D MarkIII.
- Different Iso should change exposure, thus changing from ISO100 to 320 should blow some highlights.
- A DNG from RAW-Video is different from CR2, but both are Digital negativs.
- Regarding bitrate for H.264: IMHO increasing CBR doesn't improve quality in a visible way. For that reason developement is abandoned.

I hope my answers in a nutshell, shed some light on your questions.

As of today 10/12 bit RAW/MLV recording is available for DiGiC 5 cams.
There is work done for porting it to DiGiC 4 but there is no ETA.

Well, short but consistent.

Thanks for all!

the 70D questions are still unanswered

Regaridng ISO change on RAW recording i think i might get the same result (100 ISO = 400 ISO -2EV in post) but im too lazy to test it out
