Hi,

I've run into a problem with my 550D that I can't fix or make sense off.

I usually use aperure priority mode, so i realized the problem now.

Basically the problem is modes are not matching what is displayed on the mode dial. If I cycle through the modes on the dial they don't match the mode the camera thinks it's in and some modes like A-Dep, M, Auto, Auto without flash, Macro, Sport, Night Portrait and Video can't be accessed.

On Dial - On Screen (Mode camera thinks it's in)

Movie - P

Night Portrait - P

Sports - Portrait

Close-up – Landscape

Landscape - Landscape

Portrait - Portrait

Auto without flash - Portrait

Auto - Landscape

CA - CA

P - P

Tv - Tv

Av - Av

M - P

A-DEP - P

I tried to clear all camera settings and clear all custom functions, and also upgraded the firmware from 1.0.8 to 1.0.9 to see if that would help but nothing seems to reset the camera back to how it was.

It doesn't seem like a hardware fault, the dial is not slipping between settings and it won't go past the end points. It seems more of a software settings issue but I can't figure out what the problem is and what caused the problem.

After i googled the problem, i saw a few similar situations like mine, but as i saw there are no proper solutions. The links are below:

Does anyone have any idea what has happened or any suggestions on how to fix it? Is it possible to do a full hardware reset on the 550D? Please let me know if there are any other tests I can run to try and diagnose the problem.

Thanks,

Anil
