CHOPPY SOURCE WINDOW

Hello i have pp 5.5 and im trying to edit graded img sequence jpegs from lightroom.  When i bring the image sequence to the source window the playback is so choppy.  I know i can bring the footage to my timeline i can render for smoother playback.  How do i get the same smooth playback on source window so i can scrub through the footage and get the exact footage i need?
