Hi!

I have a USB 3.0 card reader, but my laptop only supports USB 2.0. Will I risk ruining my KB 1000x 64gb cards with this combo?

I'm guessing the answer is yes, but seeing as I haven't fully understood why using a USB 2.0 card reader could damage the cards in the first place, I'm not 100% sure... But I'd like to be!

It doesn't matter if your interface is 2.0 or 3.0. The important thing is to use cardreaders supporting UDMA-7! As label on CFcard case provided by KB tells.

I've used a USB 3.0 hoodman card reader hooked onto a USB 2.0 port in my MBP -- works fine but obviously takes longer to transfer than USB 3.0!

As far as I have been able to figure out, the issue is putting a UDMA7 card into certain USB 2.0 card readers. As long as the card reader is USB 3.0 then (apart from transfer speed) there isn't a problem with connecting it to a USB 2.0 port.

That's not quite right. Some USB 3.0 cardreaders may need firmware update to support UDMA-7.
Therefore: There are USB 3.0 cardreaders able to damage the card. Run a web search and you will find several issues.

Thanks! I have Lexars UDMA 7-reader, so I feel confident  8)
