i own a 5D mk III and would like to install Magic Lantern. I don't know what to choose between version 1.1.3 and 1.2.3. I read a lot of threads but I don't understand what are really the differences btw the two versions, except that you can uninstall ML with 1.2.3.

One feature that I would really like would be the peaking. I'd like also to be able to uninstall ML.

If I shoot in H.264 only (not RAW) will I have "corrupted frames"?  I need to film some scenes without interruption for the sound. I need at least a file of uninterrupted sound to be able to synchronize with other cameras and the sound taken apart.

thanks

except that you can uninstall ML with 1.2.3.

You can reset cam's bootflag after testing 1.1.3.
To do this with 1.1.3 requires firmware update to 1.2.3 and running installation again. Then downgrade to firmware 1.1.3.

then if you can also uninstall ML with 1.1.3, what are the benefits of the 1.2.3 version? I am even more confused now. I couldn't find a post listing the differences between the two versions...

should answer some questions about ML for firmware 1.2.3.

There are some reasons to go with 1.2.3: AF with lenses/lenses+teleconverts with f/8. And uncompressed HDMI output. Plus Eye-Fi bugfixing.  Those features were introduced with firmware 1.2.1 .

thank you. i had already read this post, but I couldn't figure out why it is better than 1.1.3...what is the downside of 1.1.3?

what do you suggest that I choose like version?

nb: I didn't get this part "AF with lenses/lenses+teleconverts with f/8"...do you mean that AF doesn't work with 1.1.3?

thank you

AF with a teleconverter will not work on 1.1.3 at F8.... you have to tape the pins (GOOGLE).

well if I summarize:
i can go with 1.1.3 to have the peaking which is the feature that I am missing the most. And I can uninstal ML as walter_schulz suggested if I want, without leaving anything behind, and without affecting the warranty. There won't be any delay to start the camera?

I don't want to shoot raw (workflow too heavy for me). I don't need HDMI, except if I buy an EVF but then I'll have peaking.

These are personal decisions you need to work out but yes you can remove ML without a trace...

Warranty issues with ML: None (AFAIK).
Cams going to Canon service sites with bootflag set: No issues either.
