P.S.: Switching back to Alpha1 and Trap Focus works like a charm.

Ok found it and thx for reporting. Once I got some steps further i will include it but it may take some time. Actually I am kinda stuck on some bugs and that makes headaches plus rubs all time...

we got one problem with 100D. It has two different revisions of the same firmware version. Take a look into the 70D thread for more infos about that. I may help out with porting once I am done with 70D but I have no clue when this will be. So no promises for now....

Thank You very much Nikfreak !  Quickzoom is working fine now ! And thank´s for Dot Tune  :)

hey Mr. Click,

dot tune works fine here with properties enabled. Didn't test with properties disabled which is the case for Alpha2. In theory it shouldn't write values back to Canon menu with Alpha2. Maybe you got lucky and it will work w/o writing values but show the correct afma settings so you can set them manually. Is this fact for you?  In general I think a lot of people will be happy to use it cause the 70D has been somewhat discussed about afma problems on different forums.... Now they will get an automated way to run it as often and as fast as possible. :D

At some point, I went to format the card and wanted to keep ML on it (using the Q button while in the format menu).
I specifically chose the "Keep ML" and it format+removed ML.
Kind of a bug, I don't know, but at least people who wants to remove completely ML knows that it works perfectly ;p

Thanks nikfreak for all the efforts.

Yeah y'all need to wait until I add this. Shouldn't be a dealbreaker but that will solve all quirks with restoring / formatting

As announced here I uploaded a new build for you to test. Once I get some positive feedback I will update the first post, too.

Quote
What to expect with the next alpha:
- Indeed temperatures were too high. It will decrease now by ~10°. will be much better
- Focus confirmation is fixed
- Quickzoom had been reported to not work. it will work now (didn't try myself until now so no clue if the reported bug was ok)
- Magic Zoom behaviour should be ok now (had been reported that buttons don't work as expected)
- You will get hardcoded fps 23.98xx (24 will be 24 instead of 21.xxx and so on) but still no fps-override
- No audio features in next build
- Overall stability

I guess there are instructions on the forum how to uninstall. See also Digitalveil's reply #16
#983
still not clear to me where deusex formatted his card. Using a sdcard reader or by using Canon menu to format card and (1) keep ML or (2) remove ML? There's the option to switch with Q button. Also on page 1 see replies #10 and #11.

Quote from: deusex1 on January 25, 2015, 11:58:31 AM
At this alpha state, there is no menu instructions to un-install ML.

Which menu instructions do you refer to? Any other cam shouldn't have this...

unfortuantely I am not able to share a more advanced release with you. We are going to test some more alphas. I will share the next link soon. Still most features like full resolution silent pictures or dot-tune won't be available for you. They work but only for me atm because they require properties enabled. First i need more feedback from you and have to solve some quirks like ASIF crashing, FPS-override and some other smallies.

That's all for now...

Update: Alpha1 available. No new modules inbuilt

I will update the first post as soon as possible.

Plz check all reported bugs. Test Intervalometer, Trap Focus, and watch out for glitches, bugs or whatever seems wrong. Additionally do "Debug -> Burn-in-Test -> Quick-Test (15min)" and report you findings.

@digitalveil: regarding FPS -> Alpha0 differs from the pre-alpha builds... In Alpha0 70D is completely excluded from source code. We will get it right thanks to your help with listing the needed values  :D

I better quote myself from first post:
QuoteI can't support two revisions at the same time but take a look at the source. Everything is well documented. Once this build got somewhat stable it's about days to support all revisions.

We got everything needed to support all 70D-Wifi models. So why worry about fw revisions? You only have to accept that I won't support all revisions in this early stage of porting. Once we are somewhat stable all 70D's will get ML. It's a matter of sitting some hours in a row in front off my computer to get it done. Really, take a look at the source, especiall the stubs and consts, then you will get it...

hi...
after downloading alpha0, i updated my firmware with the instruction above and voila my 70d have blank black screenn. first i thought my 70d is not supported on. but then with BLANK i take a picture and voilaaa i have my screen SHOWS ENABLE BOOTDISK :)
i dont know if this step could solve this uncompatible issues. and good luck

It's stated in first post. You need to have a pictire shot with your 70d before starting the firmware upgrade

Quote from: pa0los on January 15, 2015, 09:27:01 PM!
I tried installing the alpha and it didn't work the first time, because I didn't understand the instruction correctly. Just a few notes to nilfreak's manual:
1. After you put the SD card with extracted ML files to your camera, you must switch the camera to photo-shooting mode and press INFO button. The display should present information like shooting mode, SD card space left, date and time, etc.

This is stated in first post, too

Quote from: pa0los on January 15, 2015, 09:27:01 PM
3. At this point I didn't see anything on the display, because camera booted into shooting mode. I had to press "play" button - my photo on SD card showed up and after few seconds I could see the "Enabled bootdisk" message.
Nice find although it should have done it automatically but others can try that, too.

Johnny, the menu override in Canon menu while selecting the option to format card works. You can switch with "Q" button to format card and retain ML on camera which I tested and that's working. There's also the option to remove ML but I didn't test it. Should work but I cannot guarantuee that it works because I didn't try. I will test it myself later and give an answer on that. Till then I don't recommend you to use that option.

What's not working:
Check also Changelog history below for all details and disabled features...

  • ML menu disappears/flickers after some seconds in Liveview / Movie mode (known bug, appears on 6D, too)
  • Only fast zebras work (no raw zebras)
  • FPS override is completely disabled
  • Trap focus only works in photo mode (not Liveview). All other focus features are disabled (follow, rack, ...)
  • Dualiso only works in photo mode (Looks like we are stuck in movie mode atm like 50D / 7D)
  • Electronic level might freeze (read your Canon manual. By default Canon disables electronic level when FACETRACKING is enabled!! So don't use 'em together. Canon knows better  ;D )
  • Bitrate modifcations (H264) are completely disabled
  • Don't try to open Canon menu (read: Canon not ML) while raw recording. This will end up loosing your record!
  • Disable "Beep" (or set "Touch to...") in Canon menu if you are using MLV_SOUND. Not following this advice will lead to ERR70 crash while mlv recording.
  • ...there might be some other issues not listed here...
  • You list me all bugs you find like instructed above (fill in Not OK and try to describe the problem as best as you can)

  • New firmware installer. Allows for easy installing / uninstalling ML
  • Latest committs from ML repo cherry-picked. a1ex was on a run again  :P
10th Mar 15: Alpha4

  • Properties are enabled now. Understood and accepted this red marked warning from above? 5 private testers (including me) reported that nothing broke til now
  • Dual ISO included (reported as working for photos only by private testers). Download contains custom cr2hdr versions for windows (thx Audionut). You need to use those.
  • DotTune Autofocus Micro Adjustment included
  • MLV recording included
  • Experimental full-resolution silent pictures included
  • Fix for wrong temperatures being showed
  • Raw diagnostics module included. Got time to read and contribute?
11th Feb 15: Alpha3
  • fps-override now experimentally available (ugly but available at least. Be sure to use fps overrides only in 1080p 25fps PAL mode. Don't report other modes as buggy, I know that). "HighJello-FastTv" should be able to set whichever desired fps from 0.X to 25fps. All others like "exact fps, low light" won't go below 16.666. In rare cases it might happen that you need to disable and re-enable fps-override to get it working. Anyone experience in setting up Google Forms so we can publicly start with testing? I liked this:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1KiXGOHynUkqyAo5D3bgWB4RWs_I9Im7zkJ4T041jjEQ/viewform?formkey=dFRxbGZlUHYyOHB6SDZWZFVpUlVRTUE6MA&pli=1#gid=0

I am unsure if Google will let us paste images in forms. Anyone know something better cause i have no experience with surveys and/or free available testing forms. I think it would be good to collect everything in a place...

I want you to be able to report bugs like this with pics (if possible) and in text seen in the first link above:

http://magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=3697.msg33471#msg33471

So anybody able to take some time and help to provide such solution? Me and some others will do last tests in private and once a testing form (at least a google form / spreadsheet) is available then we will go public alpha  :D

Ok I could need 1 tester for a "pre-alpha" build. best case: He / She has bought the 70D in 2014. You won't be able to remove the bootflag again. Just drop me a PM or take a look in IRC...

Update: Let's say I need 5 testers. If you already got some dev knowledge and have no problems with compiling ML then don't hesitate to PM me so we can run a few test days before making anything public.
GAME OVER

Ok enough for now! Please don't apply for early testing. I will keep you updated these days. The ratio of guys owning the "old fw revision" has been ~40%.
