Probably a lot of you already heard the news, but there are some very interesting things going on for raw video.
14 bit compressed(lossless) raw  :)
And now it even works with lower bit depths  :D (unfortunately that is on the 5dIII only,  :'( )
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19300.msg183231#msg183231

This could help for longer raw video recording times, or continuous recording on high resolutions.
For instance, max resolution (full frame, no digital zoom) on the 6d is 1824 x 1026.
With 12 bit compressed raw that would give about continuous recording times.
Or about one minute recording time in 11 bit 2400 x 960 resolution in zoom mode.

Does anyone here has the knowledge or the knowhow how to port this to the 6d ?

The source code is in the compressed raw branch:
https://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/src/ad3969261ccf44db198ae01d863ec3062d9d640e?at=compressed_raw

It's in the silent picture module:
https://bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern/src/ad3969261ccf44db198ae01d863ec3062d9d640e/modules/silent/?at=compressed_raw

Some info about the process TwoInTwoOutLosslessPath:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=18443.0

And some info about development for it on the 5dIII:
http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=19300.0

On the 5dIII there is some improved crop recording mode for achieving the higher resolutions for 4K, this newer crop recording isn't yet developed for the 6d, but for as far as I know, the compressed raw part can be used separate from the crop recording mode.

Some more guiding:

No idea of how to port this, but if needed I will be glad to help with testing.

I was reffering to CHDK features on the M3, as I played a little bit with it today.

The possibility is equal to the possibility of a ML port to Digic6-based Powershot cameras.  :)

Yup, that was my understanding. :(

Some stuff on CHDK looks to be running fine though.

Great, thank you very much! Time to slowly start having some fun :)

Why, is there still any possibility of a ML port to the M3?

Went with the M3 in the end. Guess it is finally time to try CHDK!

Hi all,

Please take this post "lightly", I am a real noob with all this stuff.

So, I just finished studying this book on programming in Python. Now, I know Python has nothing to do with Magic Lantern, and that that is a very basic book. So, even though I have been reading some of the sticky posts in the development section, I was wondering: how could some kind of "study" plan look like so that in, say, a couple of years I could come here and help with developing? I guess C, ARM architecture... other stuff? And in what order?
Don't know if it can help, but I am don't know a lot of mathematics either... I can manage calculus and linear algebra though.

Hi all,

I am in front of a dilemma and don't know how to choose. I can either get:

  • Canon Eos M + 22 m-lens + canon ef-m adapter + speedlite + 2 batteries for 250€. This would also have magic lantern with clear advantages.
  • Canon Eos M3 + 22 m-lens + 18-55 m-lens for 400€. Looks like this has larger (24 vs 18 mp) and better sensor as well as some other minor (?) improvements.

What would you guys do? I own a 600D and a 6D and I just love magic lantern there. I guess I would especially miss the video capabilities even though the M3 would be more of a casual camera.

Ciao a tutti da Roma,

felicissimo utilizzatore di ML su canon 6D. Mi piacerebbe tantissimo aiutare nello sviluppo ma le mie abilità di programmazzione sono veramente vergognose.
