Hi again.

I just tested out the newest build and I´m sorry to say that the problem with the audio .wav file getting deleted by itself is still there? Tried on several various .MLV files recorded with audio, and it behaves exactly like the last build I´m afraid. Going back to the older build from around march/april that I use and converting the exact same .MLV files, and everything works as expected again, and the audio is there.. Wierd..

Awesome!! Thanks a lot Danne. Will download the new version and give it a try.

Thanks again and have a great weekend!

Hey guys. I have a strange problem with the latest version of the CR2HDR app that I just downloaded the other day. When converting my regular .MLV files (14 bit, with sound on MAC 10.11.6), for some reason the audio for each .MLV file dissapears from the dng folder for each clip?! I can see the audio file clearly when it´s working on spitting out the .dng files, it´s the first file that appears when it starts converting, and after it´s done, the audio file normally jumps to the bottom of the .dng files in each folder. But for some reason, as soon as CR2HDR is done processing a .MLV file to .dng files, the audio file disappears and is simply gone and I can´t find them anywhere? Very strange?

In this first pic when the app is converting the file you can clearly see the audio file at the top of the .dng folder.

In this pic the .MLV file has been finished and there is no audio file at the top as usual, since it normally goes down to the bottom.

And in this pic you can clearly see that there is no audio file at the bottom either.

I opened the converted .dng sequence in Resolve just to check and see if the audio was present anyway, but it wasn´t.

So I went back to an earlier version of the CR2HDR app that I fortunately had saved in my system that I´ve been using up until a couple of days ago when I decided to try out the latest version. This version is from around march-april 2017 (can´t remember exactly), and the exact same .MLV file converts properly with the audio saved and present in the .dng folder as usual..

It´s just a regular 14 bit .MLV file, no dual iso or anything else, and I didn´t do anything differently in the CR2HDR app between both conversions, I used the exact same settings. Am I doing something wrong? I´ve looked thru the app to see if there has been an option for sound added somewhere that I don´t know about, but couldn´t find anything.

Thanks for a respons, and if this has been asked and answered somewhere, I´m sorry to write this post, but I´ve searched and couldn´t find anything about this..

Kind regards

Hi again Danne. Just tested the version of the app you posted, but unfortunately it behaves the same way.. When trying to convert spanned .mlv files (M00, M01 etc), it skips frames during conversion for some reason? See this picture of the mlv file I try to convert to .dng:s. It´s a folder inside Resolve and not a clip, and you see all the missing frames. And now there wasn´t any audio extracted either for some reason?:

And here is a part of the .dng folder where you see the missing frames again:

And again, I converted this same exact .mlv file with the other piece of software I have installed that is not supported (Rawmagic), which I again of course stopped using as soon as I found out it was not supported by ML, and it works perfectly in both Resolve and Ae, has all frames intact and also the audio extracted and synced:

So there´s obviously something strange going on? It´s very unfortunate that this happens as I have no control over when my camera makes these spanned files. I have my ML menu set to EXFAT, no spanned files across the cards and not to allow skipping frames, and reserve card space is checked.. And for some reason the very last file I record to when my card fills upp and the recording stops automatically saying "Recording stopped. Camera/Card really EXFAT?), always turns into a spanned file... Since there is no way of knowing when the card is about to be full since the space left on the card doesn´t update on the screen after each recorded clip, it´s completely impossible to know when the card is filled up until the camera stops recording by itself and gives this message. The only time the space left on the card is updated, is by restarting the camera, which is of course impossible to do between each take as it´s not practical.. So does anyone know why ML makes these spanned files when the camera stops recording by itself? And is there a fix for it so it doesn´t do this?

If you like to download and check the same .mlv file I just tried to convert, please let me know and I´ll send you a download link to the files.

Thanks again for your help, and I hope this is solvable as I of course don´t want to use an unsupported piece of software to convert my .mlv files.

Hi.

I had issues with some random upper case .DNG frames inside a regular .dng sequence, which caused Resolve and AE to think that the sequence was corrupt. After the latest update when Danne added the force disable dualiso command, this was fixed, and I haven´t had that issue since then after doing several test shots.

But now I have another weird issue?! For some reason that I don´t understand, sometimes I get a split .mlv file, even thou I have disabled "skipped frames" inside of ML in my 5D mark III running 1.2.3 with the latest build. Meaning for about 1 file per card, usually one of the last files recorded on the card before it fills up (I have reserve card space enabled, as well as the EXFAT option checked and the card is formatted as EXFAT) at the end of the recording, I get those .M00 .M01 .M02 etc split .mlv files for some weird reason? And for some reason, the CR2HDR.app doesn´t convert those files properly and skips frames for some reason?

Look at this picture from the bin inside of Resolve. As you can see, all of my converted .mlv files, converted with the latest build of the CR2HDR.app, is shown as clips as ususal, except for the last clip that you can clearly see is not recognized as a clip, but a folder..

Inside this folder is as you can see in this next picture, the .dng sequence but with some missing frames, making Resolve or AE not treat it as a sequence of course since it has missing frames.

So I check my .dng folder with all the frames extracted by the latest CR2HDR.app, and as you can clearly see, there are missing frames here:

Just by being curious, I tried converting the same split .mlv file with another piece of software I have installed on my computer that I don´t use any more after reading here that it´s not supported by ML, and for some reason it converts properly without any issues, and I can see the clip as a clip inside Resolve:

And by looking in the converted .dng folder here, you can clearly see that there are no missing frames in the same exact .mlv file, just converted by a different piece of software:

So obviously the camera has recorded all the frames, as they apparently exists within the .mlv file, even thou it´s split. But the CR2HDR.app for some reason skips some frames, rendering the footage useless as it doesn´t come out right and the audio is messed up and doesn´t line up or sync when getting these missing frame sequences.

Has anyone else experienced this issue or know of a fix? After I heard that the other piece of software I used to use to convert my .mlv files to .dng sequences was not supported by ML, I obviously stopped using it instantly and searched for another way of converting my .mlv files on a MAC. And the "easiset" one I could find since I´m not a programmer or coder or have any knowledge whatsoever of using the terminal on a MAC, was the CR2HDR.app. I have no skills nor any knowledge of how to code, program or use the Terminal since I´m only a filmmaker.

I´ve tried both the regular latest 14 bit build, as well as the experimental 10-12 bit build, and it´s the same issue with missing frames on split .mlv files no matter if I use 14, 12 or 10 bit.

Anyone has any ideas, that would be deeply appreciated.

Kind regards

Sorry to ask, but any chance you´ll be able to make it available for OSX El Capitan (10.11.6)? I can´t upgrade any of my computers to Sierra due to software and plugins I use for work that isn´t compatible with Sierra yet, and would love to try out this new seemingly awesome conversion software for Magic Lantern you´ve created :)

Thanks a lot Danne for taking the time to answer me regarding this. I´ll definitely post one of the mlv files that has this problem in the thread you mentioned. And I´ll download and test your updated cr2hdr.app build to see if the problem goes away. And now that you mention it, from what I remember, in every mlv file I´ve converted that has those upper case .DNG frames randomly in the sequence, I believe that the absolute first frame always have had a .DNG frame, and then several .dng frames, and then random .DNG frames throughout the sequence.. But I´m not sure as I haven´t looked for it on the first frame.. I´ll definitely upload a problematic .mlv file that has these issues so you can take a look. And sorry for posting in the wrong section, I didn´t know if it was caused by the 10-12 bit build or during the conversion process.

Thanks again.

And as a side note, you don´t happen to be Swedish do you? If you are, I´m from Sundsvall in Sweden :) Not that it has anything to do with anything, just curious :)

Kind regards.

Thanks a lot for your replies Danne and a1ex.

Sorry if I didn´t make it clear in my post, but I´m not shooting nor trying to convert dualiso files, just standard regular 25fps mlv files. And I´m using the latest cr2hdr.app to convert my .mlv files.

The strange thing is that 99% of the time, both 10 bit and 12 bit .mlv files convert properly as lowercase .dng frames that works properly in both AE and Resolve. I don´t do anything different, nor do I change any settings in either my camera or in the cr2hdr.app when converting. Sometimes I can record and fill up 2-3 64 GB cards with no problem whatsoever converting 12 bit .mlv files with cr2hdr.app. All clips are recorded and converted to regular .dng frames as they should, and then out of nowwhere, 2-3 clips has these random .DNG uppercase file extension on just some random frames in a converted clip as shown in my previous image, making both AE and Resolve think that the sequence is corrupt. And if I manually change these random .DNG frames to .dng instead, they open just fine in both AE and Resolve?

So I don´t change any settings between clips or cards, I don´t do anything different when converting my .mlv files from the card in the cr2hdr.app, and I still get these random upper case .DNG frames randomly inside a .dng sequence which I think is so strange?

Has anyone else experienced this? And if so, is there a solution or am I doing something wrong? I´m sorry to say that I´m just a filmmaker and I have no knowledge of nor any experience in how to use code, read code or search for errors etc, so I can´t contribute with anything but my experience in using Magic Lantern unfortunately.

Thanks again for taking the time to read my post and replying.

Kind regards.

I´m having a weird issue with the 10-12 bit version. I´m using a 5D Mark III, with the latest feb 11 1.2.3 experimental 10-12 bit version. Sorry if this has been covered before, I´ve searched all the possible combinations of words I can think of, and read thru as many threads I can but haven´t found anything regarding this issue.

I convert my MLV files using the latest version of CR2HDR, and I use Resolve as my choice of development software. After I started using the experimental 10-12 bit build to try out 12 bit recording, I noticed that some clips in the media pool inside Resolve came out as folders, and not clips. Inside those folders are still frames, and smaller corrupt parts of that particular clip making the clip useless, which I thought was weird..

I checked the folder with the dng files for that particular clip and noticed something really strange. At first I thought that there were missing frames in the sequence, but I have not checked the "frame skipping" option in the ML menu. So I checked the dng folder of one of the corrupt files, and all the dng files are there, but for some reason some of the dng files are named with the file extension as capitol letters (.DNG) and not lower case letters as usual (.dng)!? And that particular dng sequence doesn´t load in either AE or Resolve as it says it´s corrupt. In Resolve, each .DNG file comes out as a single still frame.. If I manually change the dng files that have upper case file endings (.DNG to .dng), the clip works for some reason!?

I have tried everything I can think of to re-create the issue, but it´s completely random and doesn´t happen when I use 14 bit. It only happens when I change to 12 bit, and there is nothing indicating that it has happened to a clip, nor can I figure out anything that might cause it as it seems extremely random.

Has anyone else experienced this issue? I get this issue on about an average of 2-3 clips per 64 gb card I use. And some have a lot of .DNG file endings in them, making it a real hazzle to manually re-name all of them :)

Kind regards

Thanks a lot for your reply DeafEyeJedi. I´ll upload a file and share the link here so you can have a look at it.

I´ve tried all various FPS settings, but have had the same random issue with every setting. I have the exact same problem as @mrleather, where the audio on some clips seems to be completely rearranged and doesn´t match the clip at all. Like if you´ve cut the audio in half, and put the second half before it, so it´s completely wrong and no way of trying to match it up in post even by cutting it and trying to move it to the right location..

I normally shoot in 25 FPS (in PAL land) when shooting with sound, and I use the regular Canon 25 fps mode, and not FPS override. I´ve tried with FPS override on, but with the same result of messed up sound. Have tried every build I can think of and tried resetting ML to default, but still the same issue. I have 2 5D3´s both running ML on 1.2.3 as I need clean hdmi out for better viewing on external monitoring with my small hd 502 and 702 monitors, and I get the same result on both of my cameras. So I can´t see it being a hardware problem with my camera as I get the same result on 2 different cameras using different CF and SD cards..

Haven´t found anything that I can pinpoint to cause the issue as it´s so extremely random for me, so I´m also in desperate need for help if there is something that can be done about it, or to let me know if I´m doing something wrong so I can correct my mistake if that is the case.

I have a 5D3 using 1.2.3 and have the exact same problem, and have had it ever since the sound module was added.. Have used every conversion software available, every build that has been released, many various different CF cards to try and find out what may cause the issue and see if I can isolate the problem to be able to avoid it, but have had no luck so far and have pretty much given up on using sound with ML unfortunately.. At first I thought using a HDMI monitor connected to the HDMI port when filming was causing the issue, but after extensive testing both with an HDMI monitor attatched and without, I still get the same random results..

I have searched every thread I can find about audio and ML but haven´t found any solution or what may cause the issue. And for me it´s extremely random. Sometimes it´s 1 out of 10 clips that have the audio messed up just like you described, and sometimes it´s 10 out of 10, and sometimes it´s 0 out of 10. I´ve tried everything possible that I can think of to try and find a pattern of what may cause it, but no luck as of yet, and I´ve been using ML since it was released several years ago...

So if anyone have had the same problem and have found a solution to the problem, or what may cause it, I would also deeply appreciate a reply. I always use an external recorder anyway for sound, but syncing audio in post is sooo much easier if you have scratch audio on the clips recorded in camera as Pluraleyes works like magic when syncing audio. The clips that have messed up audio needs manual syncing, which always is a pain...

I appologize if there is a post somewhere here on the forum that already covers this topic, but I´ve searched everywhere in every way I can think of, and haven´t been able to find anything about it. So if my searching skills are poor, I appologize :)

But nonetheless, ML is magic and I´m forever grateful to the creators and developers for their amazing work! :)
