I second that @Quentin (love the crop-mode h.264 on the M) but not sure if it'll ever be possible on 5D3 because I think I may have remember someone mentioned awhile ago that it could be a hardware limitation regarding the FF sensor?

Correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm still dreamin' on it though...

I would also love crop-mode in .MOV format!!

Anybody got further info about that chance? Thank you!

4. No, you don't need ExFAT but it is recommended. How? Just do it. ExFAT was introduced with XP SP2 (August 2005). And you should really, really think about upgrading.
5. No, you don't wish to use old "stable". No RAW video support at all. Among other things.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

This thread (and others) is so long that I couldn't find clear answers, as I mentioned earlier.

Your reply is really appreciated!  :)

As previously stated by most of us users whom have tried both 113 and 123...

113 nightlies is the way to go for longer recording times in RAW/MLV's...

Downgrade from 123 to 113 is rather simple if followed directions correctly within from Download page.

Hi,

I spent lot of time surfing the forum (and honestly the white background kills my poor vision) but couldn't find clear answers, so maybe you could help me a bit (which I'd REALLY APPRECIATE), sorry for my questions:

To summarize:

1- What is/are the exact problem(s) when using ML for RAW video on 5D3 with 1.2.3?

2- According to the home page download link, this is the latest build for 5D3 1.2.3:

magiclantern-Nightly.2015Mar29.5D3123.zip
Built on: 2015-03-29 12:10:34 -0300

I was going to install it since my 5D3 runs firmware 1.2.3 but on other thread I read that you CANNOT disable the AutoBoot flag once it's enabled on the 5D3.

Q 2.1: Was it fixed?

Q 2.2: If you cannot disable autoboot: How can we get ML completely uninstalled?

Q 2.3: If you cannot disable autoboot: will it slow down the camera or make it be a potential problem in some situations? (especially thinking if I later sell the camera to a friend)

3- Could you please let me know the current RAW video file format(s) convertion methods for later editing? Long ago there was a tool only running in Linux

4- For large files like in RAW I need to format my card in ExFat, right? How can it be done safely? And can Win XP recognize the card later via USB card reader?

5- Long ago there was a "final" release for Canon T3i/600D, 5D2 and many other models. That never came for 5D3, is that right? (I wish there was)

Sorry once again for many questions and thank you very much in advance!!

General Help Q&A / Re: 5D M III - Firmware version...
January 03, 2015, 09:27:40 PM
Hmmm... Canon disabling firmware downgrading doesn't look good in any way.

As far as I know it never happened before on 5D3, although I never tried to downgrade it either (I only know it did happen with 7D Mark 1)

We'll have to check carefully what they "improve" in this new firmware... And since the version is 1.3.3 and it even refers to "older than 1.3.0" when you try to downgrade it, it seems the engineering team has been working and testing many versions.

EDIT: Can someone with version 1.3.3 tell any difference in features with 1.2.3 on the Menus? Thanks!!

We have 40 fps in 1080p RAW, test it out!

Other frame rate limits: 38 fps in 1080p H.264, and 67fps in 720p, both RAW and H.264.

Technical info here.

Tests needed:
- push FPS to the maximum values and make sure you can record safely in RAW, MLV and H.264. If there are artifacts, that's a bug.
- try all the video modes (1080p, 720p, 480p, zoom, photo...)
- write down what you have tested, so others would be able to focus on untested modes.

The update will be also in 5D3.113, and it's been already there in 60D, 600D and 1100D for ages (with some lower FPS limits).

Hi Alex,

What exact memory card did you use for this (especially for RAW video)?

Thank you!

There's more than one: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?board=54.0

Thanks!

I see the are many topics there.

What application would you suggest to convert ML .raw files directly to a video file format (not sequence of images) in Windows, to then process in Premiere/AE ?

Thanks once again

Hi,

Sorry for my question, I've been out of the loop for long time.

Is there any app for Windows that converts the .raw file to some kind of video file? (there wasn't any for windows in 2013, only for Linux, but maybe there is one now)

Thanks a lot

UPDATE - EDIT: Now it seems the ML load bypass by pressing & holding "SET" button does work even when turning the camera on in Movie mode. I don't really know why it didn't work before, weird.

---------

-- SOLUTION FOUND --

The User Guide says "Press and hold SET at startup to bypass ML only once (for the current session)."

This is true and DOES work, BUT only if you turn the camera on with the main dial in M mode, at least on the T3i/600D. I use to have main dial in Movie mode, so it did not work.

Hopes this helps someone else too.

Cheers!

I am running nightly feb25 and it works for both of my 600D. I remember it working when I last ran v2.3. None of that helps you though. Make sure you are holding in the SET button as you turn on the device. Make a two handed operation. I must say beyond testing that it worked I never use this bypass option.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply.

I really make sure that I press and hold the SET button when turning on the camera (two hands operation as you suggested), but it does not bypass the ML load

I tested several times with no luck... Even tested pressing & holding PLAY button (and other buttons too, just in case) but nothing changes.

I really don't understand why it doesn't work!!

Nobody has any idea why it doesn't work on my 600D or how to bypass ML at startup by other way?

Thanks!

Hello,

Sorry if this was already asked but couldn't find any answer yet.

I cannot bypass ML 2.3 at start up by pressing & holding the SET button on the T3i/600D (firmware 1.0.2).

The User Guide tells it can be done this way, but it doesn't work. I also tested pressing and holding PLAY button, but doesn't work either.

Any help please?, since sometimes I don't want to load ML on this card, but can't avoid it (yet)

Thank you very much in advance!

Yes, the Linux script does just that.

Something for Windows?

Hi,

Great idea about this thread.

Is it possible to somehow use FFmpeg to get video directly from the current .raw file?

http://www.ffmpeg.org/index.html

Thanks

When I saw that there was a "digital dolly" feature that pans across the image as you're recording, it made me think – the 5D Mark III has a built-in accelerometer, which is used to display whether the camera is "level". However, if one were to somehow use that accelerometer and programme the movement of the recording window to compensate camera movement, could this lead to an in-camera stabilising feature? I know this seems crazy - just a thought :)

If ML team can access to the accelerometer functions, that would be very cool indeed!

Step by step, the 1st thing is to get this amazing development working fine and stable. If so, there are so many great new possible features...

Big congrats to ML Team!!

General Development / Re: ML UI rationalization
January 30, 2013, 09:52:23 AM
(Again briefly from a cellphone, sorry if| missed something):

. IMO the more similar behavior (as much as possible) between Canon menu and ML menu, the much better for intuitive experience, especially helpful for new or not master ML users

. It's necessary to give alternative to Q button and rear wheel (etc.) that Some Cameras don't have (like I said 5D2 doesn't have Q button)

. Something like "My Favorites" tab /menu (like Canon's) would be extremely useful (if possible and yet not implemented). I know this would require work. Just an idea To have all the featunes you use most in one single Tab.

Very briefly since I'm from a cell phone:

This is a VERY important and helpful proposal to make ML easier and more intuitive to use, but please remember that the 5D Mark 2 does Not have a "Q" button.

General Chat / Re: What camera are you running ML on?
November 02, 2012, 06:20:36 PM
Hi, we mainly use:

5D Mark 3
5D Mark 2
7D

There are plans to use EOS-M in near future if it shows to be good enough in IQ (stills & movie), especially due to the compact size, very handy in many situations.

Thanks!
