Raw Video / Re: RCA monitoring on the 5D mk iii

Is there a way I can check using the 5D? Otherwise I'll get my 550d back soon and check with that.

Thanks for the reply :)

I just need to get a rough video feed for the director, but keep LiveView LCD for filming myself. I don't have the gear to rig up a proper EVF with passthrough to another monitor.

Plus I think I'm right in saying the RCA output causes less of a drop in write speed than HDMI when shooting raw?

Don't mind what happens to the RCA audio.

Is this an easy change to make?

Raw Video / RCA monitoring on the 5D mk iii

With Magic Lantern on the 550d it is possible to override the default behaviour of plugging in an RCA cable to the port on the side of the camera. By default, inserting an RCA cable switches off the LCD screen. By switching on the 'Use headphones' option, you can plug in an RCA cable without losing LiveView, so the audio output can be listened to with headphones. I haven't got access to my 550d at the moment, but does this mean that the video out down the RCA cable is also active at the same time as LiveView?

I'm trying to find a basic monitoring solution for using the 5D mk III while shooting ML raw video. What I'd like to be able to do is have the LiveView LCD on, but also send video out along an RCA cable. Obviously, with the mk iii audio options and headphone socket, there is no need to be able to use the RCA port for monitoring audio.

But is it possible to override the 5D mk iii default behaviour of switching off LiveView when an RCA cable is inserted?

Ditto, but would love to be involved.

Raw Video Postprocessing / Re: Pomfort ClipHouse

Am on a mac. Would love to test.

Have shot two short films with the ML raw so far.

'Derelict' (https://vimeo.com/68379232) using ACR to color/debayer.

'Pop!' (https://vimeo.com/2vstudios/pop) using Davinci Resolve.

I have several more projects lined up this month and have time to give it a real world test.

Thanks, will give that a look :)

Hi scrax,

I've been trying to edit the raw2dng app to allow me to choose a destination folder for the DNG shot folders (to save me copying the .RAW files from the CF card, and instead just extract the DNGs directly into a folder on my hard drive).

Have you got any pointers for how to edit the app in interface builder? I'm fine with the unix script, as long as there's a way to grab a chosen file path value from the GUI and use it in the script.

And changing filenames to reflect scene/shot/take? Is that straightforward?

Is there a good page somewhere (on the wiki?) with instructions for getting set up to work on the code?

This would be really useful. Kind of like the Blackmagic camera onscreen metadata.

Could the video/raw filename also be generated based on this metadata? eg. SHOT003-TAKE002.raw

I shot a film over the weekend with most of the shots out of sequence, and one of the most time-consuming editing tasks was putting it all back into correct order. If the shot and take numbers had been in the filenames, it would have been as simple as ordering the files by name!

I presume this is possible for raw since the filenames are different to standard Canon filenames, but is it possible for classic H.264 files as well?

Thanks so much for all your work on this! Your turnaround times for all this dev work are amazing :)

Any ideas about where to look for converting DNGs to CinemaDNGs ready for Resolve?

Feature Requests / Re: Rate Image on LV button

I would really appreciate this feature, but for movie clips.

It would be great to be able to mark takes after shooting to speed up editing later. I use the protect function to mark the best take for a section of scripted material, but it would be useful to have an 'ok' label, or 'largely unusable'. It would be good if this marking function was more easily accessible too as on the 550D I have to go into the menu to Protect Images, then protect clips in the image review.

Perhaps the marks could just be added to the LOG info for individual clips?
