Hello Magic Lantern,

     I shot a sunset timelapse last night and a sunrise timelape this morning. For some reason, the camera stays on the same setting when first taking a picture throughout the entire timelapse when on Manual mode. For example this morning, it stayed at 8" at ISO 1600 and F8. For some reason I had to adjust the slowest shutter to 8" in order to get proper exposure. I used a B+W 10 Stop ND on a Canon 16-35mm F2.8 L USM Mark 1. Basically, the exposure is not changing when the sun gets brighter, or sun gets darker with a sunset. I changed the Highlight Ignore settings from 5% (used on sunset) to 0% this morning (for sunrise).

     I even tried turning the SNR limit to off for Midtone and Shadow. I had link to Dual ISO on. The exposure target was -1 EV.

     I'm really confused as to what is causing this.

     I'm planning on going to my local skatepark and filming some skaters with a fisheye lens. I really would like to record 50 fps raw video, however I cannot find a way to playback sound for skaters to view. I'm currently using Danne's Build from December 11th, 2020. I've tried MLV playback and H.264 proxies. The only other way I can think of is to use my Zoom H6 audio recorder or my Iphone. To my knowledge, recording to an external recorder wouldn't work either because this camera doesn't output sound through clean HDMI. Any help on this would be great. Thank you.

    I'm having an issue which involves horizontal and vertical lines showing up in the video. These were shot in 4:3 aspect ratio at 50fps in Magic Lantern Raw Video with 10 Bit Lossless with Alter Bit Depth set to 10 bit. Sound is auto, no mic attached. I used an external monitor, and didn't use fps override. The Build is:

    I've tried not using the external monitor, tried 23.976fps, and different MLV App settings as well as all MLV App settings turned off. I've even tried Batch MLV App. I'm using Cinelog-C in Adobe Camera Raw and SmartImport2 Script with After Effects. Clips are ProRes 4444 XQ. All software is up to date.

    I tried using Neat Video V5 but it made the clips look worse...

    I honestly am boggled as to what is going on. It's possible it's a build issue, but I'm hoping there's something I'm missing that someone can point out. I'm hoping to film some skateboarders soon, so I'm doing all the preparations I can in time for when it's warm out.

     I've been editing a choir concert lately, and have noticed several Focus Dots from 1080p 12 bit lossless raw video from the Canon 5D Mark III. I used ISO 1600 and a Sandisk Extreme Pro CF Card. I messaged Danne and dfort, and they have helped me a lot. I created a fpm file with coordinates of where the focus dots are. I used Fix Bad Pixels On, Aggressive, and Interpolation 3. Also, I have Fix Focus Dots On. However, I keep seeing more focus dots in my footage and have had to move on and edit the project with how the footage currently is. My questions for the community are: How can I avoid this in the future? & What is the best way to remove Focus Dots? Hello everyone,

    I have noticed something odd happening with my Canon 7D when shooting 60fps raw video with the VAF-7D filter. Lenses used are the Canon 100mm f2.8 USM and Nikkor 35mm f2 ai. This could be because the VAF-7D wasn't designed for 60fps in 720p, or the VAF-7D filter small scratches are showing, or the sensor is scratched (I wet cleaned once and while back. I now just stick with the rocket blower). I'm hoping you can look at a few photos and a video so I can pinpoint the issue.

The artifact can be seen in the video in the beginning where the kid is throwing candy from the back of the truck. The artifact is near her face.

As for the photos, I showed wide shots, and then zoomed in shots. It's a bit difficult to tell, but I did my best showing it. I'm hoping there is a way to remove it in batch_mlv_in-out. Sorry if this is vague, please let me know if there is more information needed, or more examples. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

    I'm preparing to shoot skateboarding videos with my Canon 7D and Vivitar 7mm f3.5 fisheye, and would like to use raw video at 30 fps. The issue is I need to use an external monitor to see what I am filming since the camera will be low to the ground (there is no flip out screen). When I review the test recordings, my camera glitches/tears when using an external monitor. I've researched on the forum and have tried numerous things, but haven't been able to solve this issue. I haven't had this issue with 23.976 fps in the past, but would like to use 30 fps with a high shutter to slow down the skateboarding action/tricks. I plan on using Twixtor to really slow down the tricks. I would use 48 fps at 2:1, but there is a lot more aliasing and moire, and the VAF-7D Anti Aliasing and Moire Filter doesn't work with this lens (won't focus) because of the flange distance and how wide the lens is. The aliasing and moire is totally reduced in that setting anyway since it's more designed for 1080p. I'm guessing the 5D Mark III doesn't have this issue, and I plan on purchasing one when I can. But in the meantime, does anyone have any suggestions? Are there any settings you use which solve this problem? I've read about Edmac being a solution, and don't quite understand it. I installed the August 1st build, which has Edmac in the changelog, but I haven't had any success. By the way I'm using a 7 inch MustHD Monitor, the M701H. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Hello everyone,

     I have some older Magic Lantern Raw Video from my T3i from 2015.

    When I open the dngs (from MLVFS) to Adobe Camera Raw, the Camera Profile says Embedded.

    I'm trying to use Cinelog-C, and have tried moving the DCP file around in my Mac Library, but haven't been able to get the dng to recognize the profile.

    Unfortunately, the MLV_REC file is no longer in the folder of .MLVs. I must've deleted it, which was obviously a mistake.

    I read on an older post there is a way to add info to the dng via Exiftool.

    Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with Exiftool, and was hoping someone could try this out on a dng and .MLV file I've uploaded via Google Drive.

    If it works, instructions on how to fix all embedded .MLV files would be great.

     I realize this is a pain, and I apologize in advance.

    I'm not sure what else to do except post to the forum for some help.

    I've tried MLVFS, MLRawviewer, Adobe DNG Converter, each program I still receive a dng with Embedded profile.

Has anyone used an SD card of 64 GB size that hasn't gotten corrupted using the Canon Rebel T3i? I have used Transcend 200x and Sandisk Extreme Pro and have had problems. Thank you.

Hello everyone,

     I have run into this problem a few times now.

     I shot an event on a T3i and a 7D, and for some reason the Sandisk Extreme Pro 64 GB cannot be read by my Macbook Pro. It says: This disk you inserted was not readable by this computer, and gives me options to initialize, eject, or ignore.

    I've tried a couple disk recovery options, but no luck recovering any files. I tried Stellar Phoenix and Disk Warrior.

    I read online about using Terminal, but am a little confused so I thought not to try that yet.

    This happened on the May 7th Nightly Build. I thought a couple cards did this before because of having to use Macboot with 64 GB cards and the stable version before adding nightly builds. Whenever I add a new nightly build, I choose replace files.

   Maybe I was supposed to combine files? Maybe that is what is making my cards unreadable?

   Anyway, if someone can offer any ideas on what I can do to recover these video files that would be great. They are H.264 1080p files.

   And if I am doing something wrong with the installation of nightly builds, someone please let me know what I can do different.

    I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks.

     I wasn't sure where to post this issue I'm having, but here it is.

     While recording on the Canon 7D and T3i with the Tamron 17-50 f2.8 VC lens, I have had a couple times while recording H.264 1080p video (both at 23.976 fps and 29.97 fps), the exposure suddenly shifts and is darker. From what I read, this might be a focus shift issue. I'm also using a Sigma 72mm UV filter.

     Can anyone clarify what this is, if they've also had it, and if there is a solution for it?

Those Who Dig was written and shot in 48 hours.

This was a 48 hour film challenge that was done for fun.

The post production process took longer than expected, and was accompanied with some technical issues.

So, we were not able to complete the entire film by the deadline.

But, we did finish.

The challenge started at 10:07 p.m. on Friday, January 29th.

The film was finished at 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11th.

Joseph Ufer gave the requirements for the challenge:

Genre: Dark Comedy

Character: Jeb Clinton

Prop: Harmonica

Line: "Those who dig ditches will always have their shovels in the sand."

If anyone has any questions about equipment that was used, editing software, editing techniques, colors, or anything else please let me know. This was a great experience. We have a 48 hour shoot starting tomorrow, but it will be shot in H.264. However, for productions without a 48 hour limit, we will be shooting raw. I hope you enjoy Those Who Dig.

     I just bought a Zoom H6, and have a Canon T3i and Canon 7D. I'm trying to figure out how to trigger the recorder and DSLR to record at the same time. This is to avoid possibly forgetting to record on the recorder, but recording on the DSLR and vice versa. Simply, it would be awesome and a lot easier. This is based on this forum post: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=7890.0 but it hasn't had a post since March of 2015, and I just wanted to see if anyone has found a solution to this. I wanted to see if there is a way to get SMPTE Output on my DSLRS, and does anyone know of a set of cords that would work in order to pull this off? Thanks.

     I am in the search for a 128 gb CF card that will support continuous raw video recording with sound at 1728 x 976 (16:9) at 23.976 fps. I currently use a Lexar 1066x 64 gb, and am able to do 2K recording without a problem. To be honest, I'm not concerned as much with 2K recording, and prefer the 16:9 continuous. I'm looking at a SanDisk 128 GB Extreme Compact Flash Memory Card with: Read Speed up to 120 MB/s, Write Speed up to 85 MB/s, and is UDMA 7 Compliant. Does anyone know if I can pull off 16:9 raw continuous recording with sound with the Canon 7D on this card? I'm trying to figure out if I really need the Lexar 1066x, and am thinking the extra storage on the Sandisk would be nice. The Lexar 64 gb is priced at $80.99 and the Sandisk 128 gb is $119 (on B&H). Hello Magic Lantern,

     I am having serious difficulty with one of my MLV clips on my T3i. It is green, and I have tried using MLV Dump to fix the BlackLevel on the MLV file. I have also exported a few dngs using MLV Raw Viewer 1.3.3 and 1.4.3, and tried the Exiftool to fix the Blacklevel. I tried 2048, 1750, and 1024, and nothing changed, but the terminal showed the process was completed. I am now uncertain what the issue is, and cannot seem to find a fix. However, I have had these green and black clips before with raw video on the T3i as well as the 7D, but I think there is a solution. There is a forum post about this, and I have seriously tried everything on that post, and have found no solution. Here is the link to the post: http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=11664.0 The weirdest thing is the dng files in this particular MLV show "Embedded" for Camera Profiles n Adobe Camera Raw. I used a command code to achieve Camera Profiles (such as Vision Log and Adobe Standard and others), and the dng files then have the Camera Profiles  and no longer say Embedded. The odd thing is in the preview on my Macbook Pro, the colors of the raw clip show perfectly fine without any green. These colors are identical to the preview on the T3i's screen when recording this raw clip. When I bring in the dng files however, they are green and black. Also, I tried clicking a different dng from the 7D, and did not get an embedded Camera profile in Adobe Camera Raw. I am really stumped as what to do with this issue. I am really hoping for a fix. I am aware this is quite an odd problem, and I apologize if any of what I said above is unclear. Please let me know if it is, and I will make sure to explain the issue better. Also, if this is already on the forum please let me know. I did search the forum all day yesterday however, and I did not find a solution. I will attach pictures via Google below to show the problem.      Hello Magic Lantern. My name is Paul Harwood. Over the past year I have used your firmware, and absolutely love it! Over the past few months, I have been researching online extensively about raw video on the T3i. I am very happy with the firmware, and how you have made my camera more useful than I could have ever expected. There has been something on my mind for a couple weeks, and I haven't quite been able to find the answer. I have read as well as recognized while recording, that the T3i has a 20 mb/sec buffer limit, and this is why raw recording is limited in resolution. I absolutely love being able to record raw with sound continuously with 960 x 540 resolution. I have experimented with 5x zoom to reach better resolutions which is very cool. All I wanted to ask was if Magic Lantern knows of any way to bypass the buffer limit. I ask this because I would like to be able to use the whole frame, like 720p or 1080p H.264. I realize this question might sound dumb, and I apologize for that. I am not a technician or anything, and I do not know much in the mechanical aspects of cameras. I am just really curious to see how far raw recording could go with the T3i. I would like to know if there is any way to extend the camera's buffer. Possibly physically, or change the sd card slot to a CF. I am using a Sandisk Extreme Pro 32 GB 95 mb/sec UHS Class 10. I don't know of a card that would do better, but I am open to suggestions for this as well to extend raw recording. Again I am very pleased with this firmware. The latest nightly builds have been superb. I noticed Audio Gain was added to Mic Gain. And I was extremely happy about the AGC disable, which I discovered in a October 2014 nightly build. If anyone can answer my question I would greatly appreciate it. I apologize if this question seems a bit out there, and if it was already answered on the forum. Thank you so much Magic Lantern.
