Raw Video / Working mlv-raw file recovery tool?
January 23, 2017, 01:14:48 PM
Has anyone had any success in recovering mlv-files from corrupted cards or drives? Photorec is supposed to have support for mlv but I can't get out any working mlv-files from it.
Help greatly appreciated!

Raw Video / Slimraw 3:1 compression with ML dngs?
December 01, 2016, 03:15:42 PM
Has anyone been successful in converting mlv dngs to 3:1 compressed dngs with Slimraw?

Anyone tryed a 5d mk3 with zacuto gratical? How does it handle the Hdmi output with ML. Is the placement working correctly? Does it cover the screen side to side or are there black borders present? Do you need to use clean Hdmi mode to get full res out to the viewfinder?

Have a couple of mlv-files corrupted by empty battery shutdown. Does anyone here have any experience with saving mlv-files with corrupted endings?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I've been searching for a thread with updates on the pismo version of mlvfs. Maybe I missed it but otherwise I thought It would be good for a dedicated thread on that subject.
Maybe there isn't much work being done on this version of mlvfs but if there is please let me know here.
I'm especially interested in hot pixel fix & stipe removal options available with this method.

Raw Video / batch compression tool for mlv files?
March 26, 2015, 04:03:19 AM
Is there any batch compression tools for mlv files? As I understand it mlv_dump can compress and maintain the file in mlv format so it's mountable in mlvfs and unpacked on the fly? The command line interface isn't practical if you would like to compress hundreds of clips so I'm wondering if someone has made a tool for this?

Wouldn't it be nice to have a rec auto stop on low battery? You loose the recorded material if you run out of battery whilst recording raw (Not sure if the same applies to h264). Preferably this would be a function you could enable/disable and choose at what battery level you would like it to auto stop.
What do think? Possible/Useful?

Raw Video / Magic Lantern super 8 film Scanner test =D
February 26, 2014, 08:44:23 PM
Ever since ML raw came out I'we been curious my mk III with ML coupled to a super 8 projector would perform as a filmscanner. Projector projecting the picture directly onto the camera sensor! Modded projector lens and brightness brought down with lower wattage lamp with a ND and full CTB filter in front of it. Also made a homemade iris on the modded lens to bring down the brightness further and to increase depth of field to get focus across the whole frame.
Check out first results here:

Seems that the new ported ML-version works pretty good. HDMI info-bars seems to be misaligned efter hdmi output changes though. Anyone else trying out this out?

New komputerbay card looking good =D.

Additional benchmarks as requested in movie mode (OBS! 1.2.3 firmware):

What happend to the old snd module for raw rec? Would it possible to use the code from mlv snd module that has eliminated dropped audio frames in a new raw rec snd module? Would be great as an option when MLV recording is just a bit to heavy for komputerbay 128gb cards in the lover write speed spectrum.

When trying to record full hd mlv video i get buffer overrun after recording 4Gb of data. Seems to be related to the camera writing a new file? Would this issue disappear if you could choose to disable file-spanning for xfat cards?

Nightly build from 2014-01-05
5D3 Komputerbay 64 1000x, 128GB 1050x cards.

Now working: =D

This is a request for an additional option in rec tone that would allow automatic start/stop of the external sound recorder H6. All we need is the additional feature to make the sound beep to a continuous tone for the length of the recording.
see this topic http://www.magiclantern.fm/forum/index.php?topic=9306.0  (Automatic Rec-start on H6 solved!)

If this is done we have automatic start/stop of external sound recording in the H6!   :D

Raw Video / Automatic Rec-start on H6 solved!
November 12, 2013, 09:40:22 PM
Update: Now working fully automatic start stop

Figured out a way to trigger audiorecording on the H6 using the start record beep from the Camera and the "rec level autostart function on the H6 =D! Connect a mini-jack cabel from the headphones jack to one channel on the H6. Set start level at 0db on the H6, set level 5 on output sound from the camera and tweak the amplifier on the H6 so that the beep hits 0db on the H6. Activate standard limiter for all other channels on the unit so no other channel can start the recording and be sure that the limiter are disabled on the channel reciving the beep!'

Its not perfect because you still have to stop the recording after you stop the camera and at the same time press record so its listening for the next start beep.

I earlier posted this Idéa:

that would be a better solution but since nothing has happened with that idéa I guess this can work for now =).

Raw Video / No interface settings for RAWrec on MK3?
September 26, 2013, 01:23:48 PM
Can you get rid of th buffer info / expected frames info when recording raw on 5d3? Have been looking for a solution for this for a while without any luck =/. As far as i understand you are able to turn this off on the MK2 in the interface settings submenu but that menu is missing on my MK3. Am I doing something wrong?

Raw Video / Turn off record buffer info feature.
August 27, 2013, 01:03:10 AM
Is there a plan to make it possible to turn off the record info when recording raw? Its great for testing but once you got reliable card and want to focus on your subject matter it's in the way and very distracting. Maybe this feature already exist and I just haven't found the off switch?

Im dreaming here but what if we could send a start record signal from the camera to the remote input on the new H6 Zoom. It would be a killer feature for those how own a H6. It would simplify sync and almost make internal audio recording abundant. Could this be possible?

For the moment we have this non optimal but working solution.

Have anyone tested if having a SD-card in the 5D MK III slows down CF write speeds? I guess it should not if you don't write to both but it would be nice to be certain. I would try it myself but it seems you need to load the software from SD in the latest versions.

I just submitted a suggestion that Adobe contact Magic Lantern developers and exploring the possibility to implementing native support for these new 14bit raw-files. My dream would be a feature like the one they have for Reds r3d-files. If other people would send in similar requests maybe there is a small chance of this dream coming true =). I think publicity vice this is a great publicity opportunity for Adobe!

If you wish to do as I have the link below will take you to adobes feature request form.

Some dreams come true  =)

I love the alpha 2 with all the new features enabeld. But when recording a long clip testing the new version the second 4gig file was corrupted about 4 minutes in. Recording format 1080 All I-frames 25P. I could not copy this file to my computer even though it played around the corrupted part.
This could be unrelated with magic lantern but i have not come across this problem before and I have filmed a lot with this camera and SD Card.

Has anyone else had this problem?

A function that I would love was if you could have a auto iso mode that only went a number of stops from the one you set up in manual mode. So you could enable this mode and set a auto iso range in +-stops from the one you have selected. This would be great in combination with a mechanical iris in situation with extremely wearying light.
