Wonderful Thanks a lot MLVapp work so well !
#2
I have tried this version : crop_rec_4k_mlv_snd_isogain_1x3_presets_2020Feb01.5D3113

The mlv files can't be open in any software (Photoshop, Ae, MLVFS, MLV to CDNG on the fly). Only MLVproducer were able to do but it gave me a glitch pink image almost like snow black and white tv...

To record I have tried almost every option in the presets...

Do somebody know this problem ? Do I do something wrong ?

Thanks (:

Would love to try this build to help the community !

I have 5DM3 with:
SDHS I Sandisk 95 MB/s
CF lexar 160 MB/s 1066x

But which build to use ?
And what is the settings to try ?
(I have read last 5 pages but I'm not enought in it to fully understand...)

Hello oh oh !

I have a little problem but very annoying... Please let me explain.

When I do a video this is my workflow :

- convert Raw files in Davinci to do proxy (Davinci render is faster)
- Do my edit in premiere pro with proxy
- Then use dynamic link with AE to replace my proxy with raw files and do the color using ACR...   and   ... There is a problem...

At the beginning when I did the color in ACR, when the file were importing to After Effect, the color in AE was diffrent from ACR...
So I check the color space in AE to match ACR and it work.
But now when I do the render in Premiere, the color are diffrent from AE !

I would like to use ACR to do the color and have the same color when I do the render...

Is there a setting to check in ACR to change the colorimetric space ?
What should I use when color retouch in AE ?

Note : When I talk about diffrence with color, I talk about really small change but you know, when you do really special color retouch, you whant to get it at the end...

Is someone can help ? I probably do something wrong or something I don't know...

I did a lot of modifications and would like to have your advice !
Thanks !

Nice video !

I would like to ask you, how did you adjust your 5Dm3 to slowmo without stretch ?

@ budafilms remember whether it's 10, 12, 14bit raw it all linear no color space (444,rgb,etc...)
until you normalize it , e.g. full range rgb , rec709 , etc.. .
You should keep with ProRes 4444XQ , The reason why (short answer)
ProRes4444 , 422HQ , 422 ,422LT are all non liner codec with limited color space (rec709 , 16-235 ,clipping channel's)
mainly for broadcast SD/HD Cams . Where as ProRes 4444XQ is not limited in Dynamic range  Full  Range (0-255) linear (no clipping)
Read the Apple_ProRes_White_Paper.pdf it explains it all.

Off course, but Prores444XQ is he small enought compared to dng 10 or 12bit?
Also, you can choose your color space in efter effect, it is a good point.

I have ever seen people who work in industrie and make video as passion who say 422 is enought.
I'm not saying that 422 is better than 444 but he could be enought in many video project. Depend of what you want to do !
If you need to shoot a big project like documentary or report 422 will be nice.

What are you taking about  ???
4.1.0 ?
The standard for HD & 4K is 4.2.0(web) & SD-DV  4.1.1 (but SD can also be 4.2.0 , 4.4.4 )
4.2.0 color space is the standard for all web video streaming site .
I host my own web video streaming server , from SD 360p to 1080p & UHD/4K (I just compress 4K differently , Band width pig)
I just upload my prores 4444 file after I edited , so recompression is not a issue on YouTube
You know the old statement about data ,"Garbage in - Garbage out"
so the highest quality garbage you can upload (least compressed) give you better garbage out (compressed Vimeo/YouTube streaming file)

Sorry, I was talking about about web standard ! 4.2.0

Garbage in - Barbage out is true but not 100%
My point of view is :
If you export proress 422 proress 444 H264 high bitrate or dnxhd, I'm not sure the upload will have "real" better quality.

In all case, allways depend of your video.
Exemple :
Video with fast movment or grain will request more data to be upload in good quality but "Simple" video less.

@reddeercity
Technically , I totaly agree with you 100%
I'm only adding the context ! ;)

For PC, if you are shooting 10/12 bit, for transcoding I recommend Cineform 10 bit YUV.

Some blockbuster has been shoot in Cineform raw ! Strong and lightweight codec

Almost every computer screen is 8bit ! So if you don't have a good monitor, you will truly never see what you did shot.
And when you will upload your video into Vimeo or YouTube your video will be again compressed into 8bit 4.1.0.

Just some coloriste or photographe use a monitor 10, 12 bit :
- Cinema screen can diffuse your video in 12bit
- Photographie can be retoutch more precisely with big monitor before print

In fact, when we talk about codec for web broadcast, codec is only use to push the post prod further in terme of color.

I shot in 10bit and 14bit raw with magiclantern and It's same in terme of post-production for web broadcast. That's why 10bit raw is so huge to be discovered by the team because 10bit less data so more size and more image/s !

If you want to keep your data for web Prores 8 or 10bit 422 is very enought if you want to apply simple lut or doing basic color correction.

The only question is what do you want to do ? Where do you will spread your video ?

If you make a video for cinema screen, buy a lot of data to keep the dng file and shoot in 12 or 14bit raw.
Or if you make a video for TV or Web 10bit raw is the best codec to post-prod. And I recommend to keep dng 10bit raw file with proxy jpeg.

Great stuff!  I love the natural "grain" of RAW which comes though nicely in your video.

Thanks, nice to have a com like this ! I worked a lot on grain, that's not so easy.

Happy to show you my new project made with magic lantern !

This is a music video and actually the second version.

There is a lot of post production and I deliberately degraded the image while adding noise and doing hard color treatment.
This kind of traitement would be impossible without raw. So I'm really thanks full about the Dev from Magic lantern ! So Thx

Feel free to comment, or to ask me anything !

Shot with 5D mark III and 35mm sigma art.
The first 4 plans when you see the boys band (zoom) is shot with GH4.
Slowmo 50p stretch mode 2.35
Post prod : Premiere Pro, After effect, mocha pro

Using 18dec build and the crop marks or actual pixels aren't shown in live view on 113 5D3. If I remembered correct the 4 Dec showed correct crop/actual pixels while recording. Anyone experiencing the same? Problem is that it's impossible to frame while rolling. Best, David

I try the 18dec 5DIII there is no crop_rec and when I zoom record I don't have good liveview...

May be dfort do some test before adding crop_rec ?

@MAG
With the crop_rec module I think it,s posible to record unstretched mv720 mode(not mv1920)

Also if previewing the MLV files with raw_twk enabled please test to go back a few files then forward a few files. Do this a couple of times and see if screen turns black?

Yes in playback, the screen turns black after couple of time. (raw_twk and mlv_play)

Also when I say record crop mode, I mean in ZOOM mode. The build I have doesn't have "crop_mode" module (2016Dec18.5D3113)

So, it's impossible to record fullframe 1080p without stretch ?
#14
New build "magiclantern-raw_video_10bit_12bit.2016Dec18.5D3113"

Tested one 5D mark III 1.1.3 with mlv_rec and raw_twk

Work on 10, 12 bit also in crop mode in high res really nicely ! Also work in slowmo 50p with stretch mode.
Could it be possible to do somethings and record slowmo without stretch in full frame mode ?

dfort, I have no idea how you did it but you are dat king ! Huge deep thanks and respect

I use mlvfs.dll with register for Windows, everything work really nice but I can't delete the dng ? How to do ?

I followed tuto from reddeercity :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hidN3C1B4xk

Edit :
I you want to delete the file when "quick mount". You have to right click "unmount" then delete the file.

Try the build I just posted:

https://bitbucket.org/daniel_fort/magic-lantern/downloads/magiclantern-raw_video_10bit_12bit.2016Dec09.5D2212.zip
The link is for 5DMII

With this build --> crop_rec10bit_12bit_twk.2016Nov30.5D3113

I can use crop mode with nice result like full preview in 1x1 but it's impossible to use 5xZoom with custom resolution more than 1080p because Freeze.

Also I try to 1080p 16:9 in All 1920 25p with fps override 40fps but the final video just extremely bug. Is there any option to slowmo without stretch in post ?
#17
I try

5DIII 1.1.3
crop_rec10bit_12bit_twk.2016Nov30.5D3113
raw_twk
raw_rec
mlv_play

When I push zoom to 5xZOOM in 10bit mode the camera just freeze and it's same for all 10 12 and 14bit...

Did I do something wrong ?

magiclantern-raw_video_10bit_12bit.2016Dec04.5D3113.zip
I try the new build and it's same than VanGogh7.

Pink frame with raw_rec in 5xZoom or normal 1080p
#18
Really impressive work !

How do you clean your image with 6400 iso ?
#19
I have my 5D mark III for a week now but I learn from this wonderful forum for several months.

I read 1.1.3 is better than 1.2.3, is it true ?

I'm currently in 1.1.3.

But I understand 1.2.3 could give better mb/s ?

Raw Video / Re: Alternative RAW Workflow
July 09, 2016, 10:56:40 PM
Question about workflow...

If I want 4K video, what is better ?

- Convert dng in 1080p then Premier pro export in 4K

Or

- Convert dng in 4K then Premier Pro export 4K

I think it's easyer to work in 1080p then export 4K but don't know about quality ??

Can we please stay on topic and keep all discussion at a technical level. Posts like these just make it harder for those who might actually be able to contribute something to follow the conversation and find important information they need.

I agree.

I'm noob in code but doesn't matter. I do my best to understand and I would like to help you and try this new improvement.

Could somebody do a dropbox with the module ready to be try for 5D mark III 1.1.3 ?
Also, is it possible to chose in camera 10 and 12bit ? And can we chose resolution like when we use raw module ?
#22

Interesting story...

Could you tell us what was your probleme and how you solved it ?
#23
I'm really focus about this tread.

I think, It should be so usefull to be abel to have 10 bits and 12 bits.

- For exemple : 1920x1080 60p (12 or 10bits)
Or just by recording in good quality for 30 minutes or more.
But also 3K 10bit continuously ?

So, I ask for peoples in my cathegory (mean who are noobie).

Will it be possible for everybody having a 5D mIII or 60D (...), to easily use 10 and 12 bits ? A new module will come ?

Inifnity respect to every ML scientists !
