I took a quick check with my 50D, got the same thing as the posted videoclip,  looks almost identical.  Some kind of strange tearing issue, I tested it with 1280x720 and 10bit, write speeds about 26 MB/s so my 30MB/s card should be fast enough for this.

mlv_lite

I was hunting this 10/12/14bit for full resolution silent pictures. Would have been nice with the option to get 10 or 12 bit to save space when taking a few thousand pictures to digitize old Super 8 films :-). Don't want to move 700-800 Gb over Flashair card from Toshiba but seems that this or the WFT-E3 is the only option to access the files on the memory card while the camera is taking pictures.

Hi, about the 10/12 bit recording, is it this one: raw_video_10bit_12bit_LVState-wip.2018Feb04.50D109.zip ?

I've tried and the recording seems to go smoothly but when reviewing, the images are corrupted?

10bit sample:

recording details
mlv_lite, mlv-_play, mlv_rec on
expo. override: on
global draw: histogram on
fps override: 23.976
RAW video: 10bpp
preview: on
use srm memory: on
small hacks: on

Seemingly quite a few got successful with 10bit, so can one go higher than 1584*xxx (the max on 14bit) with the extra headroom on 10/12bit or is it the same work in progress to make 4k capable on these newly compatible 10/12bit cam?

Thanks!

I tested this build  "raw_video_10bit_12bit_LVState-wip.2018Feb04.50D109.zip"  on my 50D and with 10bit video recording. It is working, I only got 16GB Sandisk card with 30MB/s so I can't to much of the stability need to get hold on a bigger and faster CF card. But it seems that this build is okay on my 50D.

Opened up the MLV file with MLVProducer as reddeercity mentioned, and there is no corrupted frames in the file.

Hi,

an hour ago i had the same idea About the WiFi Card (before i read your post). in Germany we say "zwei dumme, ein gedanke" - "two stupid, one thought"

i will try a toshiba WiFi sd Card. hope this will work.

the silent files do not appear after restart the camera.

thx again!

Hi mash.m

Where you able to transfer file from your camera to the PC using FRSP? I stumbled upon the same scenario, trying to use a EOS 50D to digitize Super 8 and a 400 Ft reel is about 28800 images so using the shutter will kill the camera.
I hex edited the silent.mo and changed dng to CR2 extention and all files are saved as CR2 file but nothing shows up. In ML they are visible but not in EOS menu/software on the camera so same thing happens in gphoto2 so this is as a1lex say most probably the image catalog on the memory that is not updated.

If anyone got the WFT-E3A, I am wondering if the WFT-E3A would work with FRSP, dose the EOS write directly to a usb attached disk or does it write to the memory card first and then copy to the external media. with 28800 images on 400Ft reel a CF card or SD card would be to small we are talking 100's of GB before post processing :-)

Just sell 30D and buy 500D.
30D + $50 = 500D  :P

Hehe yes that would be the easiest solution to getting Magic Lantern, Maybe a 50D would do the trick :-)

Hi bookemdano,

Have had any progress on doing Telecine with your 6D? , I got a MovieStuff Workprinter XP and was thinking the same as you with the ML making it possible to take pictures without the shutter. I have EOS 30D so there is no ML on that so I was thinking a long the lines of a used 50D but I am not sure if it can keep up with the Workprinter XP running at about 6-7 fps but it would be possible to swap out the AC motor and use a DC motor and slow it down to even below 1 fps. Very slow but may worth the waiting to get the best image possible form the super 8 film.

Maybe it also would be possible to use Tethered shooting so the images goes directly to a computer over the usb but that maybe a bottleneck.

hi webflunkie,

any luck so far? i have a 30D lying around gathering dust... if I sell it i can get maximum 100,- (now, but not in a year time) but if ML could be working I could use the 30D for time lapses.

I guess since the LCD screen is a lot smaller, the ML menu part needs to be re-written quite a bit.

what are your intended goals with the ML port for 30D?

I'm a front-end developer, not a lot of low level knowledge but if i can help on parts let me know! do you want to share your develop VM image?

Time lapse with ML would have be awesome, not wear out the shutter mechanism. Would have been really nice to have ML on the 30D.
