thank you for the update.
I did a quick test and found that I can record less frames on MLV. I guess there is no advantages in terms of quality is there?
#2
Hey folks,

I have not worked with magic lantern for months and I am not up to date how the project progressed.

For examble, what is the difference between the "raw video" and the "raw video (MLV)" module?
Will dual iso finally work with the 5dmk2?
Is it still important to switch off global draw?

thanks for clarification. :-)

Raw Video Postprocessing / CinemaDNG for windows
August 23, 2013, 10:20:12 AM
Hello,

I know there is a software to convert raw files to cinemaDNG on windows, but I can not find it anymore. Can someone point me to it?

Thanks

O.

The only thing I did different than in the tutorial video is that I did not ticked "apply project settings" as my proxys were a different resolution. But maybe that is what caused a timecode missmatch. Will try later.
#5
Well there are only 4 free videos, and none of those goes into details about XML workflow. I actually don`t understand the problem. I have worked with XML and resolve many times before and never had this problem. I will check later in the propertys of the proxys and the masters, maybe there is really a timecode missmatch.
#6
Hello,

I rendered prores proxy files of my cinemaDNGs that I have from RawMagic. I did my editing with premiere pro and exported a finalcut-xml. In resolve I imported the xml (without the proxys so that it would connect to the c-DNGs files in the media pool), however, it connects the same file to every single clip. What could I have done wrong, as I don' t think a timecode missmatch is possible? Force conform to selected clips works, but that would be very very cumbersome.
#7
What can be switched off except for global draw and auto iso/wb?
#8
I did a first test with it, and I can also record about 1/3d longer. I have not checked the footage on the computer yet. Maybe this custom settings switches some internal canon processes off? Might be interesting to investigate a little further into it.
#9
Am i doing sth wrong, when I go to a custom preset I can not switch on LV.
(never used custom presets before)

Hello,

I tried to convert my raw files with raw2dng 0.11 and rendered a tiff sequnce with photoshop and with the dng-source a 422 prores with afterfx. What is very strange is that the photoshop sequence plays faster!? Both processings are 2010.
I was carefull enough to check that both files are 25fps.

The file from photoshop was changing exposure all the time (dealbreaker)
The file from after effects judders (dealbreaker)

Has anyone had the same problem?

Haven't changed anything... now it's running on 1880 x 854 25fps without problems. Buffer is always between 1 or 2 *

Wow, nice, what cards are you using? I have a Komputer Bay 64GB 1000x and I only get 677 frames on 1720x968@25fps with a.d. build from yesterday.

what version-number of .net-framework is running in mono? it needs 4.0

I have mono-runtime 2.10.8.1 but it seams that 4.0 is not even out, 3.0.10 was just released as a beta (http://www.go-mono.com/mono-downloads/download.html) am I missing sth? :)

While we already talk about using this software on different operating systems, I tried using it on Ubuntu Linux with mono, without luck;

mono '/raw2cdng.0.99.exe'
Missing method EnableVisualStyles in assembly raw2cdng.0.99.exe, type System.Windows.Forms.Application

Unhandled Exception: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Windows.Forms, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies.

has anyone an idea?

Tested again for the 5dmk2, this time I changed the bitrate from 12 to 16bit. This solved my issue, I can now import to resolve. I have a strong green cast though, but it is perfectly correctable. Wonderful job! I love it :-)

Here the C-dng in resolve

vs h264 (same camera settings)

and the first DNG of the sequence

Hello chmee,

this is very exciting. However, after converting a raw file that I created with the 5dmk2 without changing the bitrate, I could not open the dngs with resolve 9. It did not "see" the dngs. So I opened one dng with photoshop where I got presented a very contrasty image, barely recognizable without blue channel (will post dng tomorrow).

Maybe I am just missing it, but where are the newer versions of this? Thanks by the way for posting these up. I am hearing A.D. is creating newer builds but can't find them...any help appreciated.

He is putting them always on the same link, so any of A.d. link should bring you do his latest stuff.

Oops, sorry; you want tiffs, not DNGs.
Why would you want tiffs, if I may ask?
for editing purposes I use the (raw) DNG sequences, not the (converted to 16bit and MUCH larger!) tiffs.

How do you edit with the DNG sequences? As far as I know, nether FCP nor premiere (or resolve) can import those. You would need to convert it to sth else. As I worked with Photoshop until now to convert my DNGs I choose 16bit tiffs as it seamed a better option for grading than jpgs. I am rendering now with AFX a prores444 of all my dng sequences. But if I could edit the dngs sequences, that would be fantasitic!
#18
sorry, I was maybe not clear enough. I meant with Photoshop I can only convert all the DNGs from one clip in one go. But what if I want to convert all the clips that I might have in separated folders?
#19
Hey folks,

is there an easy way to batch convert DNGs to TIFF? With Photoshop I can only convert one file at a time. Maybe with AFX?

best regards

O.

EDIT: sorry I was not clear, I meant and easy way to batch-convert the DNG sequences (not individual frames).
#20
Is there a way to batch convert dng-sequences to tiffs? So that we do not have to convert shot by shot?
#21
How can I batch convert multiple files to dng? Also, is there a way with other software to batch convert the dngs to tiff or similar?

Has anyone noticed when filming raw that the picture changes exposure like when auto iso is on yet it isn`t?

I did a first corporate project today with the 5dmk2.
Here is a screengrab from the heavy graded video

Thanks for the new builds!
I do however have a strange new error when using your newest build of raw2dng for mac:

Quoterm: *.dng: No such file or directory
raw2dng converter GUI for OsX
Beta ver.0.7
/Users/root/Desktop/raw2dng.app/Contents/Resources/script: line 3:   368 Segmentation fault: 11  ./raw2dng "$file_is"
#25
Has anyone tried with the new build to import the DNGs with davinci resolve?
