Okay it looks like it was a combination of having the wrong project settings and not using the camera raw tab, thanks guys!

I'm able to control the image most of the way that I'm used to in lightroom, I just need to figure out a few more things.

Okay here is what I'm talking about:

Both images I used the dropper to find the white balance, and both I pushed up the shadow .67.

Resolve looks like absolute garbage....why?

Raw Video / Does resolve work for magic lantern raw?
January 19, 2019, 06:08:22 AM
I normally do my color correction/grading in lightroom because that's what I know best, but recently started to tinker with resolve.....I noticed that when I tried to bring up the exposure or play with the highlights or shadows it reacts like a crappy jpeg photo. It seems like there's no depth to the image whatsoever.

Could I be doing something wrong or is resolve just not as good at handling raw files?

I've been importing the dng files through the media browser in the program and I've also tried dragging them from the folder.

Raw Video / Re: Computer Specs for Playback
July 21, 2018, 05:51:18 AM
andy kh, that's strange. It sounds like my specs are pretty similar to yours. My computer is a 2012, 8gb of ram, i7 2670-qm, and nvidia gtx 640m with 2gb.

I've tried using the GPU accelerated option and it doesn't make any difference. Changing the playback resolution doesn't do anything for me either no matter what footage I'm working with.

50mm1200s, what do you mean jpg sequence? I usually just drag a regular 5d .h264 file into an empty timeline to create a sequence.

I was talking to customer service at Eluktroniks computers and they were telling me the models with the option to switch all of the graphic processing the GPU only would be significantly better than the computers with out it. To me it seems like half the people say GPU is the most important and the other half say the processor is more important. Any thoughts on that?

Raw Video / Computer Specs for Playback
July 20, 2018, 04:55:20 AM
Hey guys, a lot of the time my playback is very choppy in Premiere. I'm importing the 1080 individual jpg files (exported from lightroom) and nesting the frames as one shot.

I'm looking at getting a new computer and am trying to figure out what specs are needed to playback smoothly.

For those of you that have smooth playback what computer specs are you working with?

Thanks!

I'm very familiar with the old way of raw recording, but the new crop rec on steroids is like trying to understand rocket science to me.

I have firmware 1.2.3 installed (because I read that is what you need to do HDMI out with live preview) I'm using the experiment build feb55d123.

I'm trying to record 1080 60fps.

I set the crop mode to "1920 50/60 3x3"

I hit the 5x button and record for 8 seconds. I'm only getting 240 frames instead of 480.

I also have tried the other  higher resolutions and could get that to record the proper frame size, but my preview is nothing like what is actually being recorded. Certain settings is just a pink noise screen. I even get the noise screen with my  monitor plugged in. I thought an external monitor was supposed to solve that problem?

Any help is appreciated! I had no idea how complicated this would actually be.

I have a couple questions....

Is it true that live preview works when using an external monitor?

Also are there any risks using this? Has anyone actually bricked a camera and not revived it?

So the preview being bad and the crop pretty much make it impossible to shoot slow mo on a Ronin i'm guessing?

I like it!

Any particular reason why you had the lights and light stands in the background?

Raw Video / Raw Slow Motion 5D Mark III

Hi I've been trying to keep up with the latest on the raw breakthroughs, but I still have a few questions.

1. What's the highest resolution/frame rate possible currently?

2. What percent does it crop in on the image?

3. Has there been any reported bricked cameras so far? ( how big is the risk currently)

I've been using 1080 24fps a lot, but would love to try one of the new builds if I can get anywhere close to 1080 16x9 60fps!

Thanks!

Thanks guys!

Deadcode, I'm not familiar with that file type...I could send you a raw photo file?

The bald guy, it was all shot handheld, which is why it's shaky. I didn't have a ronin at the time which is also why it's all shot at 16mm haha.

Does a 1:1 crop mean it's a 2x crop similar to a GH4?

DeafEyeJedi, Thanks!

My post workflow was convert .mlv files to dng > import dng into premiere, make rough cut > color in lightroom > import colored shots into premiere sequence. I have no idea if that's a weird way to do it, but it seems to work for me!

Thanks! This was mostly shot with a canon 35mm f2.0 and there were a couple shots with the sigma art 50mm.

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question, but I've done so much searching and I can't find anyone who explains how this works.

I've been shooting normal raw without sound for a few months, using eye frame converter to convert to dng.

How do I shoot with sound? Do I only need to turn the magic lantern video on, record that then just use the right converter?
