General Help Q&A / Re: Magic Lantern's LV DIGIC Peaking
October 30, 2018, 03:40:59 AM
Jim try to post on camera specific section and start a thread with 5D MKII on your subject. hopefully reddeercity, one of the guys actively in development of the 5D2 can chime in.
I watched your video and that is quite disturbing as its not supposed to do that unless you are recording externally.

a1ex replied to your problem on the 1200D thread. Reply to his suggestions there.

With regards to the restart function, the last time I used it, there will be a gap. It might not be several seconds, probably 1 or less. but there is a gap.

Do i understand correct that there are no time codes for crop_rec experimental builds as well?
So mixing of external sound with footage is a sort of challenge as well, or am i wrong?

You can use a slate. or a simple clap your hands to sync it with ext recorder.

I just shot a 3x crop of a hummingbird on a perch with a 70-200mm lens. This is just insane detail. 3072x1228 12bit lossless.

Download the movie and watch it in ProRes. Literally moving photographs.

wow. Can I ask a favor? Would you mind sharing a single dng frame of that hummingbird that I can look at in davinci? That's beautiful.

The footage is underexposed or it's just your processing? Try AETTR module...

It's his post processing choice as I have played with the DNGs hyalinejim has shared. They are raw files and they contain most of the highlight and shadow data and you can tweak the image to your hearts content.

To the OP, I have done extensive tests on the KB 2 years ago, and getting the 128gig 1000X CF is about as good as you can get for the 5D mark II. The camera could not take advantage of faster cards as it is limited by its CF data bus.

I have not tested the 1066X.

This old post shows my tests with their 256gig 1200X which is problematic on the 5D2.

Try re-installing it since you removed it.

aliasing in canon dslrs is a well documented issue. Use mosaic engineering's VAF if you want to minimize aliasing significantly.
#14
Those are typical color aliasing and moire issues of the 5D2 and most older canon dslrs due to line skipping. Shoot a brick wall or an ac grill or transmission lines and you'll see them. Its always been there but more obvious since you shot in low resolution. Look up mosaic engineering VAF filter if you want to control these issues.

In my experience with previous builds, the garbage on top and bottom of image during playback is actually outside of the crop area and is actually not there in the extracted dngs and when viewed in resolve timeline.

Is this the same case?

the links work on chrome and firefox.

Over at the hardware section and in the camera specific sections you will find the answer to your questions.

The short answer is that card you have is too slow for raw video.

fps over ride not ideal for very long duration of "timelapse" like effect since this is for movie recording. Use intervalometer in stills mode instead.

The USB 3.0 issue had its start when large capacity KB cards starting with 64 gig and 128 gig with 1000x speeds got corrupted using USB 2.0 readers. Not much about the port themselves but the readers' circuitry. So for instance, if you use a usb 3 reader and plug it into a usb 2 port, the card would be safe, albeit, the transfer would be slow.
I have no info about fw readers and how they would handle the cards. If you have a non KB card, I'm guessing you'll probably be ok. Though don't take my word for it. ;)

Another thing to consider is if your FW reader is compatible with UDMA 7 specs.

get a fast cf card. at least 1000x.

Yes I updated the code yesterday and asked for a review. I hope it'll be ok this time. O

That is good to know. Thank you for your contribution!
