Title: Remote joystick
Post by: tsbanking on December 09, 2014, 06:22:41 PM
Hi guys, I searched but couldn't find the answer.
Is there a way to remotely control joystick of 5d mark II?
Im trying to use "follow focus" function of ML and want to be able to control focus without touching the camera.
Found bunch of remotes that trigger shutter, but nothing that controls joystick function...
Thanks.

Theoretically, any function supported by EOS utility could be controlled over the USB port if you got busy with an Arduino or similar (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rr_gNl3NzK8), otherwise the only external inputs you have access to are half shutter and full shutter press via the remote cable, (+ face sensor and audio trigger) so the magic lantern features can only be controlled by those.

That doesnt control the joystick but you control focus directly with this via USB cable. Works fine during ML usage.

Or if you have more than one hand free, this seems nice too: http://www.aputure.com/blog/2012/08/15/introducing-v-control-usb-follow-focus/

Just found this here, a battery grip with a remote control. Might be used with the left/right/up/down buttons to control ML focus pull?  :)
