Results from the first round of testing were very promising. We have fixed the few issues reported to us, fine-tuned the internals, and now are ready for the second round of testing.
This time we'd like you to try it in demanding scenarios, stress the camera and push the software, try as many options as you can in all combinations and configurations, then answer this question:
Is Magic Lantern ready for pro use? Are we there yet?
If the answers tend towards a solid YES, the stable 2.3 release will be available on July 23, 2012, free as in speech, for all of our supporters. Three weeks later, on August 13, it will become free as in beer, for everyone else.
We are committed to turning Magic Lantern into a rock solid piece of engineering, and your help and support are moving us closer to that every day.
Similar to RC1, ML 2.3 RC2 works on Canon 5D Mark II 2.1.2, 550D 1.0.9, 60D 1.1.1, 600D 1.0.2, 50D 1.0.9 and 500D 1.1.1, and is available to our supporters.
Thanks to your help, we have covered all our funding needs for now. Please consider donating to EFF for us, they do a great work in defending your digital rights, including the right to run third party software on your own devices!
You guys are fast!
I'll swap to the RC2 and continue testing then, first time using of Magic Lantern, all those features are overwhelming. Thanks for creating such an awesome piece of software.
Excellent work! Big thanks to the whole team!
i love the automatic hdr, because, especially in the night, it's difficult to know how many exposures you need for an hdr because of the high dynamic range in the scene (from the deep black of the sky to the bright white of a street light for example. so today i've used it a lot. but sometimes simply i'm satisfied with the exposures taken, and i don't want to finish the last, 10minutes, exposure. so here comes the bug. if i press menu, the hdr work stops correctly, but if i switch off the camera, when it's caputring (so, breaking a shot when it's shooting) the camera stops working. when i switch on thee camera, all the shooting capabilities are broken. the menus is showed, the canon and the ml one, but when i try to take a shot (with or worhout hdr activated) the camera throws an error (the duration of the mesage is too fast for reading more about the kind of error). the solution i've used was to drop off the battery, and then all works fine, until the next hdr breaked in the middle of a shot. iwill do some more testing about this issue (but as always it's a non issue, if one knows about it). the rest i've tried for now worked well
If you can reproduce the error, let me know how.
I've noticed something similar with Samyang 8mm in daylight (because of the black lens hood visible in the image).
